I am someone who has always enjoyed a full body massage. However since Covid and being diagnosed with Fibro i Have not had them. I just wanted to know if it is a good thing to have a full body massage especially when in pain (especially in my legs, hands and arms)

Hi Ejnutz. Think it kind of depends on who does the massage. My daughter bought me a Mother’s Day massage at a local spa and it wasn’t a huge success.
Very pleasant young girl but extremely heavy handed. My legs ached for days.
I said next year I think I’d prefer a cut and blow dry!

In my experience, you need a massage therapist who knows a lot about fibromyalgia in order to not leave you in more pain.
One type of massage which is sometimes helpful for fibro sufferers is myofascial release:

Could be worth looking at. Some sports physios and regular physios offer it xx
Hi I have had lots of massages over the years but cut down once o got diagnosed with fibromyalgia. I use to go for a full body then be in absolute agony for a few days afterwards. I think a tens machine is now better for me personally. I also enjoy a foot massage which isn’t as sore, quite relaxing x
I have massages and it helps with the pain for me but as others have said, you need a therapist who understands about fibromyalgia. I wouldn’t have one during a flare up however😊
I enjoyed a regular massage usually 3-4 times a year before covid ....I see a remedial sports therapist who has a great understanding of chronic pain and fibromyalgia
I am tender and sore for a few days after the massage, but once that eases I can really feel the benefits.
Looking forward to restrictions easing and being able to book a long overdue one xxx
I never feel comfortable lying on my front due to my neck so I never go to spas or such. I've bought myself a massage gun which I use every day and it has made a tremendous difference in my life. I guess a tens machine is similar. In the end, you personalize the massage and you pay way less than having someone else do it. Hope that helps.
Well for me it most certainly is. I have really missed my massages and now rather siezed up, lots of head aches and very tight muscles. It does depend how good your masseur is. I saw a chap for about a year, it was very painful and of very little benefit, but he got frozen shoulder and was unable to work and I found this lovely lady, she is wonderful, so thoughtful and kind, does a mixture of massage and trigger point and for me it makes a world of difference
Best wishes

I go to a sports massage lady who works at the chiropractic clinic. She is very good, and constantly checks with me if the pressure she uses is ok. I find it very helpful, as it seems to release muscle tension. I have missed it a lot as it hasn’t been allowed during the latest lockdown. I will be booking one very soon. The other benefit I have noticed is that I sleep better after a massage.
Agree myofascial release
Thanks all for your responses. It looks as though specialist/sports massages are the best way forward.
