Does anybody else get this with fibro? Haven't been out a lot due to the pandemic, but weekly I walk to my chemist 2mins away, now, I can't physically walk it! I start off ok but then my thighs ache followed by my knees, by now my legs are shaking, after that my legs turn to jelly with a lot of pain, a couple of times they have given way where I collapse onto the pavement! Any tips please?? Thanks....

Hi heartbreaker. So sorry to learn you are having such a hard time with walking. If it carries on you will lose your confidence and that won’t help with your physical or mental health.
Do you think one of those walking frames with wheels would help you? I live in a block of flats and lots of the older residents use them to get about. You could even push the boat out and get one with brakes and a seat for when you fancy a little rest.
I broke my hip 3 years ago and while I was recovering I felt much more confident when I was in the supermarket and using a shopping trolley. So I can understand that pushing along a very stable contraption on wheels makes you feel more balanced and confident.
Good luck. Xxx
Hi, I've tried a walking stick & ive got what I call a trolley Dolly, 4 wheeled shopping trolley with brake & seat? Neither, help me stay up right & feel safe when I'm out? Might ask Dr to refer me for physio, Thankyou for replying to me ...
The only thing that worked for my legs is magnesium spray. Dead Sea take care.
I take a chair with me. I am one of those strange people with peculiar collecting habits and one of those things I can't resist is folding chairs. This strange hobby led me to discover the Mclaren Gadabout folding chair /walking stick which is a lightweight canvas and aluminium chair with a walking stick handle, once made by the child's buggy people (not the F1 racing team) which has a sling so I can carry it on my back (or better still one of my sherpas/teenage sons can carry it), it doubles up as a walking stick and, when I get worn out, I can unfold it into a chair. Sometimes, when out with the family, I will stop and sit down and tell them to carry on without me and meet up on the way back.
It sounds like a case of use it or lose it to me ie possible muscle atrophy from non use.I'd suggest speaking to a health are professional ASAP to get the right exercises and in the meantime try and walk every day.
I walked over 10 miles yesterday.
Good luck
I have a few new things happening medically atm so hopefully we will get to the ans, very frustrating , no idea if it's linked but first time it happened was walking across car park just after my Mums funeral in January? I walk round my house ok & stairs with effort but I'm carrying on trying....
It helps me to put my legs up for 10 minutes before or in between walking. Twist-stretch them outwards helps me too. I've never directly collapsed, but inadvertently getting off my bike (cycling is fine) has occasionally resulted in dangerous situations when near traffic.
When we go for walks we take my bike with us.
Physio's a great idea, just has to be started gently, whatever they tell you. Something like gentle yoga back and leg exercises on youtube could help, too.
I find that shielding has wrecked what fitness I used to have. A year ago, I was stiff, but fit. But since lockdowns I have lost most of my stamina.
I puff and pant like an old walrus! Try to get out for 15 minutes of walking each day and it will start to get your muscles in shape again.
Cheers, Midori
ps, Must remember to take my own advice!
Hi iv had this pain for month's got MIR in January turns out have trapped nerve at base of spine due to having 3 back surgery for slipped disc to much scare tissue to operate so waiting for appointment to discuss pain relief .I taught it was from fibomyliga for long time was nothing to do with it .🌷
Unfortunately many GPs are unable or unwilling to investigate and put everything down to Fibro.
I’m the same my back hurts so much some days I can’t walk I hate this disease 😒lock down has made it worse nothing open just have to remember spoon theory x
