Ok, I’m really unsure if I should go for my second acupuncture appointment. Last week i had acupuncture done and the stomach pain I was having went away but since then have been having nausea, a continuous headache that hasn’t stopped, pain everywhere in my body (especially lower back, chest and neck) and my mouth muscles feel weak which has never happened before. My reflux has been completely horrendous (my throat has been burning) what’s everyone’s advice. Should I give it another go or is this my body saying it’s not working for me?

Can you have a chat with your acupuncturist before your next appointment? I've heard of treatments causing a healing crisis where you feel worse before you feel better due to body getting rid of toxins .... But no idea of this is something that would be expected to happen with your acupuncture.

Before Covid I used to have private acupuncture quite regularly and normally would just feel extra tired and relaxed for a few hours afterwords. One treatment which he would give me if I had been in flare mode (he never gave it me if he knew I needed to go somewhere that day) would knock me for six and make me feel reallymdizzy and a bit nauseous and thr next saymwoild feel as though I was hungover. Only on the third day did Imreap the benefits of reduced pain and more energy but have never had such an adverse reaction as what you are describing.

Everyone's body reacts differently and 2 was told I would probably feel, worse before I felt better which was the case. As Hazel_Angelstar says I would try to speak to the acupuncturist before your next treatment is due to discuss whether they tninkmitmjs from the acupuncture or something unrelated. Good luck.x

I’m sorry to hear that you feel so unwell. I had a course of 6 as advised by the individual as she was adamant that it would take that long for my body to relax but lm afraid that it had no positive effect for me personally but l am aware that a number of other individuals have found the experience a positive one at the very least l would ring your acupuncturist and have a discussion about how you now feel and then take that communication into account when deciding what to do next.

Hi im sorry to hear this, speak to your acupuncturist prior to more treatment, maybe there's something different they can do. I think a lot of the time acupuncture helps with your emotions, more than anything when i first went i cried proper tears without actually crying, he told me i was holding onto a lot of sadness which had happened through my life & it wasnt just effecting me mentally but physically too. I havent been to see him since first lockdown & i really miss it. I also notice i have more aches pains & emotions again. It definitely helped me feel more positive. I wouldnt give up too soon. Ive heard lots of different opinions, for some people it works for others it doesnt. Good luck with it x

Hi, I have been having acupuncture for years. I first started having it for RA and it has really helped. I’ve been able to reduce my methotrexate dose. I also have tendinitis and bursitis and the acupuncture really helps with this. Initially I went every two weeks and now I go once a month. I feel tired afterwards but next day that has passed. I had friends who swore by it and I must admit I was very dubious! Now I m a firm believer in it so I would speak to your acupuncturist and see what they say but personally it works for me! Good luck!

First I had it done 9x and it didn't help, it hurt so I cd often hardly walk after. She'd said we shd've stopped after 5x. But I was told by others she'd used far too many needles for fibro - it shd be under 5, she was using 20. She was also not Chinese trained. So I'm prepared to try it again. There's a acupuncturist-doc in my town who claims acupuncture is great for fibro. I prefer to try it with a friend/colleague of his who disagrees and promises to be careful... (doing ozone-injections = autohemotherapy there already, hasn't helped yet).
