I feel like I’m going to lose my mind. I’m not sure if this is related to fibromyalgia. But for the past three days I’ve had pain in the right side of my face, primarily by my ear, along my jaw line (including inside along my teeth and gums), pain and skin sensitivity all over my cheek bone on that side right up to the edge of my nose. My eye occasionally has a bit of pain behind it. And I currently have a cut that is healing on my lower lip on that right side (which is the only thing that has changed on that side my face).
The skin is so sensitive and I keep getting like an electric shock pain go through these areas. Then it aches and just hurts especially my jaw. Currently can’t lie on that side because of the pain by my ear and jaw.
I am trying to figure out what it could be without bothering my doctor again if it is just fibromyalgia. The only thing I want to do is to put a cold compress on it, even though it makes very little difference. I am just running out of ways to stop the pain.
I thought it might be sinusitis but I have no cold, no runny nose, nothing :/
Anyone had something similar?

Thank you for the information. I will have a look at those two things. I am struggling so much right now with it. I have a high pain tolerance but this is definitely testing it 🤦♀️
Yes but mine turned out to be shingles. That often is the problem we always put everything down to fibro when it's not always to blame. I telephone conversation with your GP should be able to shed some light on the cause of the problem.
Don't worry about "bothering my doctors", that is their job. The symptoms you described can be from many causes and it is really important to have a professional examine you with proper diagnostic tools to figure out what is the cause. Please have yourself seen by a doctor as soon as possible.
new pains which last more than a few days should always be mentioned to your GP - as its not necessarily a fibromyalgia pain, and could have another cause. I learned this the hard way when i suffered from a kidney infection for 3 weeks thinking it was just a flare up of my usual back pain.
Hi poppy I've have all the pain in face you have said. I cannot lie on my right side. I've had it a few years. They say my neck bones C56 and 7 are pinching my nerves. I am now at last seeing a Neurologist. I've had scans waiting for results. But yours might be different to might. Best get checked out could be many causes xxx
Neck pain is a huge problem for me as well so I thought pinched nerve. I’ve done some stretches and hoping the pain reduces in my face in the next few days🤞
Definitely seconding moo196 - I asked my older dentist 3 years ago, he thought my jaw pain on the left wasn't from teeth, psychosomatic, like I did, then I thought it was fibro, esp. when it went over to the right, but checked with my younger dentist all the same. He did a total x-ray and found 2 root inflammations. And it's not ending. Fibro (as well as Sjögren's and other things) can cause a dry mouth, which can cause teeth problems... and that can cause all sorts of pains in your head, as you've described, as well as influence pain in the whole body.
I was diagnosed with FM last March and one of my main symptoms was a tingling, numb face, with moments of severe shooting pains over my eyes, head, my jaw bone into my left ear and with tingling on my tongue and lips. It was really weird and although it has improved, it has not disappeared - I get a numbness or prickling sensation on the left hand side of my face. I did see a neurologist who did an MRI scan and upped my dose of amitriptyline for 6 months. I would go back to your doctor because even if it is 'just fibromyalgia', it still should be checked out and something done to relieve the pain.
I am so sorry you are going through this amount of pain. A few years back. I had a similar experience. My rheumatologist thought it was trigeminal neuralgia. It was excruciating and went on for weeks. For me noting worked until it finally calmed down. I was taking 600 mg of ibuprofen for some respite. I hope that you can find some relief soon. Gentle hug for you, poppy96.
Hi Poppy , This is probably due to the Fibro I get terrible pain in my jaw to the point I’m I could bang my head against a wall it’s the worst pain ever so I know how you feel however you need to get this checked by a doctor and your dentist just in case it’s something else . I had a scan and was referred to the dental hospital in London even though I live in Birmingham .I use heat and cold packs it’s the only thing that helps for me .
I hope you feel better soon it might only last for a few weeks mine used to come and go but now I have it permanently unfortunately.
If this is caused by shingles you need to be put on antiviral right away. Shingles affecting the head and neck area can become very serious if not treated right away. Please have someone see you as soon as you can.
Sounds like neuralgia to me I have it to some degree, I know how it can be. There are certain epilepsy/antidepressant drugs that are used for neuralgic pain. Please contact your GP as it could be an infection or something xxx let us know how you get on xxx
HI Poppy, a year ago I started with pain just above my lip on the right side. I had a tooth out which was annoying me although I was pretty sure that wasn't causing the pain as it came and went and was definitely due to a nerve. Dentist made me a bottom row splint to wear at night in case I ground my teeth. He also gave me some laser treatment for free which worked at the end of 2019 but when I went again before Covid it wasn't going away so I wear the splint whenever I am not going anywhere (now it's pretty much all the time). Sadly I am sure it is (as Kimar says) Trigeminal Neuralgia as it was in my ear and at the top of my head. That nerve goes in three directions - it is very clearly shown on Google.
Because of excruciating nerve pain in my foot which no-one has been able to identify (MRI, Pelvic ultrasound, Foot ultrasound for Morton's Neuroma, Electric Shock therapy and Physiotherapy) I have ended up taking both Lyrica 75mg (Pregablin) and Yelate 30mg (Duloxetine) and my facial pain only rarely occurs and the nerve pain in my foot does not make me want to scream and stamp my foot and have a crying meltdown like it did.
I am a very senior citizen so it is easier to take life slowly but I wish there was something other than these heavy drugs to help with all the so often unbearable pain we get. It may well be something else so please get checked but have this knowledge in your head as Drs so often are sceptical of FM. All the best - glad you are on here as you get a wider viewpoint and lots of help.
