Hi everyone, I need some advice on this. I have been suffering from fibro symptoms for almost 4 years and got a fibromyalgia diagnosis a few months ago. I have always had sensitivity and pains in my cheeks and jaw since 2010 but they flared up during cold weather only. Although for the last three years, i have constant throbbing pains in my jaw area, and I feel like my head is vibrating within and paining i get incredibly sensitive to sounds and everything triggers me. Does anyone else goes through such chronic pains in face and head? what can relieve the symptoms. Any suggestion is helpful!
FYI: my x-rays, ct-scan have come out normal.

HiSorry to hear you are in such pain, I have sudden shooting pains sometimes from my jaw,it can be like electricity. I understand that random pain like this is typical of fibro. It occupies my head just as uou describe.
For other reasons I had dental work that aligned my jaw as my bite was wrong ( this wasn't the cause of the pain but didn't help)
If pain is more when you wake up ask your dentist about your bite and a mouth guard if you grind your teeth.
Stress makes my pain more frequent as I naturally hold my jaw tighter.
I felt a little better when I sorted my sleep out.
I feel you when you say it occupies your head. electricity like pain which is unpredictable is usually neuralgia. Acc to NHS website: Trigeminal neuralgia is sudden, severe facial pain. It's often described as a sharp shooting pain or like having an electric shock in the jaw, teeth or gums.
I thought this might help you.
My pain is not shooting, it's dull to high intensity, continuous with vibrating feeling beneath skin. I dont grind teeth so I ruled that out. but i do suffer from insomnia and trying to work on my sleep cycles. I wish GPs helped me more but they don't.
I don’t get chronic pain in my jaw but intermittent pain that I believe is myofascial which I improve with massage along the jawline and cheek muscles. Sensitivity is very common, lights/ noise etc. I have tinnitus too and right sided headaches which I have just started physio/ acupuncture for so I have my fingers firmly crossed. I would look in to myofascial pain and get a physio referral if anything more serious has been ruled out.
hey! thanks for sharing.. I sometimes experience tinnitus symptoms too especially at nights. i will look into myofascial pains as well and see if that helps me. thanks . Hope physio/acupuncture gives you some relief. xo
Hello , does sound very uncomfortable for you 🙁have you seen your dentist recently, it sounds like you may have seen your doctor if you have had X-rays etc. They can give you a good check over and see if anything I’d going on with your mouth/teeth/jaw, I do read many members can be sensitive too facial pain, headaches etc , and a lot can have sensitivity too sounds, flashing lights, myself included, I hope you get some answers very soon xx
true! my pains usually increase with sound and cold winds. Do you use noise cancelling earphones or device? I am thinking of buying one, as my sensitivities have increased to a point i am not able to sit with people. And yea the x-rays ruled out sinusitis. I feel it's fibro related but for now, nothing is helping with the vibrations i feel. my doctor has put me to amytriptiline so am testing that. it's been a week. so hopefully that helps!
No I’ve never used any devices Things like a disco or being in a pub with lots of noise (not that happens very often) I am differently alot more sensitive too noise since I’ve had fibro , cannot look at flashing lights ie on TV. It does sound like a good idea for you and I hope the meds improve your symptoms too .
I have more or less the same problem l am sceared to move from my home in the cold rain or wind as it triggers jaw pain. I have a bite but causes me pain. Don't know what to do any more. I am sensitive to light and loud noises too. Sorry to hear you aren't doing well. 😔 🥰
exactly! i fear going out in cold winds. it triggers my pains. I do have tmj disorder but the throbbing continuous pain is still unexplainable. heat compression is the only thing that works for my jaw pains but nothing works for the head vibrations. thanks for sharing your experience. wish you find coping mechanisms xx
I have suffered dreadfully with head and face pain. It was originally diagnosed as neuralgia, however, after being referred to a neurologist in Feb this year it was diagnosed as hemacrania continua. There and then he did nerve blocking injections in the back of my head which help immensely and put me on a patient initiated return list, when the pain started to return at the end of May I called for an appointment and returned within four weeks for further injections and the pain has all but gone again. Just something for you to consider, perhaps a referral to a neurologist may help x. Claire x
