Is leg weakness another symptom of fm

was diagnosed with fm about 8 years ago, I was prescribed amitriptyline and left to it, I have had several flare ups, once even hospitalized with severe pains in my head, I ended up going private but was told it's just the fm. I usually have pain and stiffness everyday, thats normal for me now but two weeks ago I was shopping with my husband when my left leg gave way, all of a sudden it has become very weak and I can barely walk, has anyone else had this, I'm really worried.

Hi there and welcome to our group :) I can only speak for myself. I have had fibro coming up for 40years and I do get what you describe very often. Do I think it's related to my fibro maybe indirectly.

There are few reasons the leg knee, knee or ankle may give way at least in my case.

It may be sometimes a simple little tweek of a muscle or maybe cramp or even bad circulation in the leg not mention things like OA

In my case I think the reason is more to do with lack of exercise or movement. I need the use of a wheelchair if going shopping for example. I also need a rollater when in the garden.

So yes my movement is very limited. And in turn its weakening my leg muscles. I also have OA in my toes and ankle. So to me it natural when I try to walk my leg does give way at times. Quite painful and scary. But do I think it's caused by my fibro I have to say no.

This is why our doctors say people with fibro must try and do some kind of daily exercise to help keep the muscles strong.

But I am not a doctor so I would advise speaking to your GP. There are many reasons you may be suffering with your leg giving way and it could be none of the things that make mine give way.

Hi, I have experienced something similar when the pain is at its worst and the muscle feels like it is sort of tightening, and my leg has given way momentarily, then recovered but continued to feel weak and painful.

I found a combination of walking around the house and appropriate rest building up more walking over time seemed to help, also application of heat.

Not sure if this is similar to your experience and if it helps?

Thank you for replying, yes I had a couple of days just lying around now I've got really bad pains in my back so I'm trying to keep moving then resting etc, it's a vicious circle, I've bought some magnesium to put in the bath, don't know if it will help but hey ho, we'll try anything right. 🤞

Have you had your B12 levels checked? I used to have all your symptoms but discovered my B12 was borderline low at 291 ng/l (although doctors say its in the normal range which is way too wide in the UK, in Japan it starts from 500 ng/l onwards and in the UK it starts from 200). So I joined Vitamin B12 Wake Up group on facebook and started self injecting B12 in Oct and my nerve pains, tingling, legs giving way, fatigue etc has improved but i still have a lot more healing to do. I think I've had nerve damage from being low in B12 for a long time. Its worth looking into and joining this group. I also started amitriptyline in March and stayed on it since july but it didn't help the pain at all until I started injecting b12. The pain hasn't gone completely but its definitely eased

Thanks, I will look into that, I had an operation on my foot nearly two years ago and have been left with nerve damage, I have tried all sorts for the pain but nothing helps.

Yes, I have had very debilitating leg weakness, numbness, making walking very difficult, so cannot walk without rollator, since getting FM.i have also met 2others who have same problem, although doctors deny the problem is FM🥴My specialist says it is FMD....check it out-might apply to you.best wishes 🤞👍
