Hi glad to hear you got Naproxen to help your pain.

I was on them until i was diagnosed with colitis so can no longer take anti inflammatories or ibuprofen.

I was many years ago on ketoprofen then was tried on Naproxen as ketoprofen is very expensive.

At least you now have something to help you.

Keep well 😊😊

I take naproxen 1000mg a day for the past 5 years, alongside other things. But i find it helps. I have to take lansoprazole thought because drugs like naproxen can burn the lining of the stomach on long term use. There is a risk of stomach ulcers. But every medication has risk

They never helped me but it's swings and round abouts regard meds. If they help you it's all good. If not there are other options. I am currently on Mefenamic Acid as a anti inflam.

Hi Fisherman

I have been on them for 6 months approximately and find them useful but I do take esomeprazole as well to protect my stomach. However when my consultant saw me he advised against taking them regularly and just to keep them for flare ups. I’ve tried doing that but find it is more successful taken on a regular basis. I would still have pain but so far I can cope.

After my husband had very bad problems from taking PPIs ( in his case omeprazole) as a 'stomach protector' I did a lot of reading and won't go near them.

Can I suggest you read this very balanced article:

I was given them once but I had a bad reaction to them, after only one tablet.

I do know someone on Naproxen for his Arthitius and he says they help him.

I went through the whole gamut of pain killers while waiting for my first hip replacement as the pain became terrible.

Personally I found Ibuprofen better than Naproxen, but I think it's a personal thing.

One thing I was told by an anaesthetist is that paracetamol increases the effect of other painkillers, and as it is not an anti-inflammatory you can take it with Ibuprofen or Naproxen. I was told to take Anti-inflammatory every eight hours and paracetamol every eight hours but staggered, so I had a tablet every four hours. May be worth talking to your Doctor or pharmacist about.

Hi. Yes, I've been prescribed these for more than 12mths now alongside Omeprazole to protect the stomach. I find they do help but some versions have coatings that don't agree with my metabolism

Along with other medications - Naproxen definitely works for me. I have taken it morning and night for years - its just a stronger anti-inflammatory than Ibuprofen. Yes it can effect your stomach - so make sure to take it with food. But for me the benefits outweigh the risks - if you have Fibromyalgia you have inflammation. If you get a gastroscopy / endoscopy done once in a while you can ensure that they are not doing you any harm.

I was taking them a couple of years ago. I took 500mg twice daily. I found that they took the pain away completely but by day 3 or 4 I would get a nosebleed. I'd stop for a couple of days until the nosebleeds calmed down, then the pain would be back to square one. I got fed up stopping and starting all the time. They can be harsh on your kidneys too, but not everyone will have side effects. It's a good painkiller.

Have tried these, work for a while ,but a little harsh on my tummy, now I use ibuprofen, but also have been prescribed morphine patches, and that helps a lot.

Have had fibromyalgia * osteoarthritis for 20 years +,with many different operations.

Now I have learnt to live with it,

Hope you find relief my dear, all the best, take care 🙂

I was given naproxen for pain when I tore a ligament in my leg, the pain of that was dreadful but the wonderful thing about taking naproxen was that it completely eased my usual pain from fibro and arthritis, also I slept wonderfully. As soon as I stopped taking naproxen the usual pain returned and my sleep deteriorated though a small glass of red wine helps with that lol.

I had a terrible experience with Naproxen - after only two weeks use I had a massive stomach haemorrhage, lost loads of blood, fainted and was rushed into hospital where I stayed for 10 days while they tried to work out what could have caused it. Eventually agreed that it must have been the Naproxen. So beware! I won't even take Ibuprofen since then, rely on paracetamol.
