Hi, I stopped taking Amitriptyline about 9 months ago for the same reasons. I was still restless at night and felt groggy the next morning. I now take Sertralene and feel much better. Might be worth discussing with your GP.

Thank you so much heat..would discuss with my GP

Hi it depends also how long you have been taking it too. Medication can take 2 or 3 weeks to work or maybe the dose is too low. I take 40 mg at night it works for me. Sertraline made my symptoms worse everyone is different. Have a word with your GP who may change you to one that suits you. X

Mistyang you might be right though because really I haven't taken it for so long. The moment I started the intake and realized i still feel restless @ night so I stopped the intake . Everyone really is different would continue the intake to see how it goes. Thanks so much Mistyang

Hi there and welcome to the group. It can take some people up to 6 weeks before they feel any benifits from the medication. If after that time you still feel no different may I suggest you go back and talk with your doctor.

Hello I now started taking Amitripyline 1 10mg tablet now 2 10mg tablets about 30 minutes or so before bed with Baclofen for my MS. I sleep better as I was prescribed for pain relief.

My daughter, who also has Fibromyalgia, found that Amitriptyline kept her awake, but I’ve found it helpful. Conversely, I cannot tolerate Duloxetine, but she’s fine with it! I take 40mg Amitriptyline at night but I also take 5htp and Melatonin at the same time.

I think it’s trial and error as to what suits.

Hi! Hope you are doing ok. Amitriptyline really helped my electric shock pains over ten years ago when got the Fibro chronic fatigue diagnoses. I had got some hallucination type things if I woke during the night, nothing awful, and knew it was the pills, noticed flowery patterns appearing on my bedroom walls etc., but as they helped I stayed on them for sometime till my fibro got so my worse and they weren't helping my pains anymore but I had got a reasonable sleep on them.

3 years ago after stopping Pregabalin my GP said would try me back on Amitriptyline again. I ended up being awake all night, though exhausted, and constant trips to the loo, feeling restless and then being like a zombie the next day unable to have the energy to do anything. As soon as I came off them I felt so much better. Amazing how they helped all those years ago yet were giving me the opposite effect 2nd time around. Was on 10mg at night both times but could take 2 if needed but no joy. We are all so different with medication. Good luck!

How long have you been prescribed the meds , sometimes takes a couple of weeks I find when I’ve started new meds to get into your system, but if this carry’s on have a word with your doctor , a good nights sleep really can make a lot of difference, I’m a grump if I have a restless night in the morning, xx

After 4 months of amitriptyline hoping it was helping sleep at least a bit, I realized 2 months ago that 7+ adverse effects were just too much and was happily surprised that I could sleep almost just as well without, but with a clearer head at night and day. But I needed it for a time. I shouldn't have taken the 10mg and then 20mg pills, if at all I should have continued playing around with the 2mg-drops, better to dose.
