New Style ESA

Hope you are all coping during these difficult times and keeping as pain free as possible.

Has anyone applied for the new style esa or are receiving it? I applied on the gov.uk site and was expecting a form to be sent out to me and from my results, if accepted would be put into the work-related group or support group.

To my suprise I received a letter telling me they will be paying me £74.35 fortnightly as I have paid enough national insurance contributions, but nothing about filling out a form or when I would receive my assessment.

Sorry about this essay but I am totally confused now🙃 xx

Hi Blue1927 I have applied just last week as I'm currently off sick since Jan due to fibro, it sounds promising then if you only have to complete the online information , that would make a pleasant change . x

I’m sorry you have not been well, unfortunately it got to a stage where I had to finish my job due to fibro 😔. When you completed the form, was it a detailed one or hust giving Doctors details and account detail? I hope you hear soon mand65 x

Honestly...£74 a week? Do they realise the cost of rising food, utility...? Sometimes I am baffled 🤔

They may put you in one of the groups if you provide them with medical evidence.

By the way it was a lovely essay and to the point 🤞🌻

Thanks Painny, I have a tendance to waffle ☺️. If you go into the support group it £113.55 a week, but you do not have to attend any work related interviews. I will reply asking them to explain the process and whether I have to fill out a questionnaire x

Hi mand65, after spending a while on the phone to DWP, I managed to speak to someone who explained that there are 2 types of contributions- income and contribution. The contribution is paid for 365 days based on your national insurance contributions. Within 3 months you should receive an esa50 form to fill out and you will then either be put in work-related group or support group and may have to have an assessment. Hope this helps as it’s too confusing for my brain!!! x

I now recall...anyone claiming ESA get the basic rate for 3 months as I was one of them. My fibro is doing the trick today and always

Hi, you have got contribution based esa. Have you sent a sick note in. If so you have to continue with sick notes. by week 13 of payments you will have an assessment. If they belive you are not fit to work you will be placed in the support group, no sick notes are needed & you will get £113 per week paid fortnightly. You will be then also given a date for reassessment....mine is in 2.5 years. On co tribution based esa you can claim for 1 year in work group or indefinitely in support group

Hi, no I haven’t sent a sick note in, although I do have one. I can’t recall sending one on the initial application, but I might have.

They havent’s asked for one as of yet and the letter just said I was entitled to esa for 1 year, which is one of the reasons I am confused. I am hoping they will be in contact soon, I do not want to have a work assessment interview, as I suffered after the PIP one, but will gladly if they put me in the support group, as I am definately not capable of working 😔.

Thanks for your help x

When you get the form, you will find this Guide to filling it in very useful. Follow the link

That’s brilliant, thank you. I have joined the benefits and work and their documents helped me when I applied for PIP. There were a few guides on the website and I was unsure which would help. Really appreciate this releasethemagic, thank you x
