Hi all, I have been to see a clinician who specialises in muscoskeletal problems, She asked me lots of questions and did an examination on me. She diagnosed fibromyalgia and said I can goto physiotherapy I'm not too keen as Ive been before and it hasn't helped me. She is referring me to see a pain pscychologist as it seems stress is my trigger. I am 1pmg butrans patch this was given to me for a separate shoulder problem, I am being weaned off them because this doesn't help fibro pain, so the bilateral shoulder pain is quite bad at the moment. I feel quite emotional about it all I have diabetes type 1 also, so now I have 2 incurable illnesses. She also said it might be a good idea for me to goto a support group as this might help.

Zmcq,

I too find stress is a trigger for my Fibro pain. But weather is usually worse for me but the causes can vary for each person. I don't care for support group meetings but being on HealthUnlocked has helped me more than any therapist did. I get more hints about things I can try including yoga, meditation, Epsom salt baths, herbs and supplements.

But mainly I get support from people who know what I'm going through. And these folks truly understand this illness. They're not some therapist that keeps saying it's all in your head. They aren't friends, family members, co-workers and strangers at shopping centers seeing a healthy looking (not my description of myself though) person on the outside and no understanding of the torture Fibromyalgia puts us through. Some people are only concerned about themselves and don't take the time get to know you.

With HealthUnlocked, I got the mental support and cheer-leading that has helped with my outlook on life. But I also know more methods to combat this disease. And my doctor has patiently worked on getting my medicationsworking.I've was diagnosed 15 years ago with Fibromyalgia. And seven years ago diagnosed with type 2 Diabetes.

I credit HU for getting me out of my deepest depression and back to doing my job again. No more sitting at my desk everyday playing on the internet.

Good luck to you, Zmcq. You can do this. Take one step at a time. Prayers and hugs!!

I apologize for the novel worthy answer. I'm glad I can help. Have you tried ibuprofen or Naproxen? These can help some with Fibro. But don't take too much of either cause it can cause stomach issues down the road.

You might ask your doctor for a prescription pain reliever and a muscle relaxant. These were the first things I tried and it should help your shoulder pain too. I take Tramadol and Tizanidine for the first two items and added Lyrica later for neuropathy but it has also helped with Fibro pain. I take meds for stress and anxiety that help me too. Everybody is different though so you may not feel relief with what I take.

I still feel pain. I just have to block it out. That's easier to do these days since I tend to forget about a lot of things just going from one room to another. And I have known pain much greater than what Fibro has given me. Not many are more painful, but they do exist.

Good morning Z,

First, I am sorry you are not feeling well. Pain makes everything else more of a challenge.

Is your bilateral shoulder pain on the outside of the shoulder [top of the arm] or at the points of the shoulder blade? I ask because different pains have differing causes and sometimes one type responds to treatment while another does not.

It has been my personal experience that physiotherapy really does not work for fibromyalgia sufferers. Been there, done that.

You and I are in the same boat. I have done all the things you are doing, except the patches, that is my next step. But you say the patches have not worked for you? I am sorry to hear that.

I am assuming you live in the UK, I am in the US, so I am not sure what the 'next logical step' would be for you.

I have been dealing with this pain for nearly 30 years, as I age two things have happened. [1] my pain level has increased and [2] over time I have learned to mentally deal with my pain. Kind of like mind over matter.

I know that isn't what you want to hear but short of medical doctors making us a league of walking zombies, there is very little they can do to completely easy our pain.

Please go see the psychologist because some antidepressants do help us deal with our fibromyalgia aches and pains. [it doesn't mean we are crazy lol]

I wish you the very best and I do hope you get some relief soon.

Be well.

~Sharon

Hi Sharon the patches I have on were for me shoulders as I've had 2 operations on each side which have not worked I had frozen shoulder bursitis and calcification in both the surgery didn't work and the surgeon will not do anymore. The patches did work at first however they are not good for you and I'm trying to get off them slowly as they are not good for fibro. My shoulders are getting more painful though. I'm sure that my psychology appointment will be a long wait before I'm seen but I definitly think it will help me. Take care x
