I have been having acid reflux lately which has been causing my chest to hurt as well. I have been prescribed Omeprazole. How long does it take for this drug to be affective ?? I have been only taking it for 2 days now and still feel no relief. Can someone let me know 🤧

It should help get rid if the acid quite quickly, I was taking them as needed, but when I had stomach inflammation which could of been an ulcer or bordering on one it was bad enough to take 300mg Ranitidine and they took a good few days to help, I think it depends on how bad it is, my chest hurt too, like very bad indigestion it was agony one of the worse pains I've ever had, get well soon

I have been taking it for years every morning. Its the only tablet that stops the burning. Just wish it would stop the burps tho 🙃

I've been on this for years but when I've got acid reflux I've got to double dose to get any relief also elevating your bed slightly makes a big difference if you're getting it through the night & not eating too late. It's horrible isn't it. 🤮

Try taking Gavistone liquid as well before bed .

GP advised me to do that may settle it.

I'm on lansaprazole which is similar. My doctor told me that I should get some relief within the first week but it could take up to 4 weeks to take full effect. I too was told to take a dose of Gaviscon before bed if the symptoms were bad and to sleep in ar least two pillows. Hope the symptoms ease soon.x

Do you take it on a empty stomach? For me personally it only works if I take it half an hour before my breakfast. It should work within a day or two

Hi LilMike14.I started with the very same problem around 10 years ago and was prescribed the same drug at just 1 10mg tablet a day.It takes 5-7 days to get into your system. After that you shouldn’t have any further problems.I know that I haven’t had any and I take 38 tablets a day, including 2 lots of restricted drugs. I hope by the end of the week your acid reflux has gone because I know that it can be really painful. In the meantime may I suggest you keep a bottle of Gaviscon Advance handy.

Yours in good health.🙂

Hi, GERD can take up to 2 weeks to feel any noticable difference as the stomach needs time to recover and the Omerprazole helps this process, however, you will probably need to take it for a while, hope you get some relief soon xx

It will take a while, and the GP will need to adjust the dose, so give it a try for a few weeks before dismissing it.

Morning, I have the same problem, acid reflux they've prescribed me lanzaporol, it was effective within I would say about a month. I had the chest pains and burning throat etc I also take peptac 1 hour after every main meal. Hope this helps you x

Take Slippery Elm capsules. Marvellous old remedy. Guarantee you eont regret it. I was given Omeprazol and it can give you other problems. Slippery Elm coats your insides so that the problem or inflamation can heal underneath it.kyou can buy itbin powder form and make a drink. I hope this helps. Thankful x

I have been on 20mg per day for over 15 years, and have suffered no side effects. It takes up to 3 weeks to get fully integrated into your body, so, in the meantime, why not add some Gaviscon, to assist. BTW, it is recommended to take Omeprazole 30 minutes before your first meal, however, because my main problem was when I was sleeping, I have always taken it last thing at night, and have my head raised by placing two planks of wood under the bed. Good luck

Hi, would strongly advise you do a LOT of research on this drug. It may reduce your symptoms, I repeat the word may. However, it causes so many other much worse problems that will cause you grief in the extreme. I was on these drugs for GERD for many years, and eventually ended up with a whole lot of worse symptoms, and when I self-tested for acid stomach it showed quite the reverse - I had an alkaline system, which is what is the biggest cause of GERD apparently. There are many sites on line that can help you with this problem, and that can tell you all the bad things about this drug. Gaviscon is much better, as is one-quarter teaspoon bi-carb. soda in half glass of warm drinking water. Much better, and no side effects, except good ones. And you can take it multiple times each day if necessary, with no side effects. Diet is also a big factor, but look up these on-line sites, and you will be flooded with good info. I personally would not touch this drug with threat of my life.
