Fibromyalgia and acrylic nails

Hi!

I know this seems a bit random and in the grand scheme of things compared to everything else unimportant, but I used to get acrylic nails done. I’ve only had fibromyalgia since May 2019, I had my nails done once and the pain I was getting in my fingers was so much worse! I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this before, if it was just a coincidence or if it was just a rubbish set I had done?

Thank you!

It could be a case where it was the act of putting the nails on which caused the problem. My wife always states her hands hurt after getting her nails done. She puts it down to all the repeated movements in her fingers and wrists as the are shaped etc.

It’s your fibromyalgia you’re stiff things hurt more. Try to eat healthy drink lots water relax. I bet you love your nails don’t stop doing things that you enjoy!!

Hi. I too have fibro but I am also a nail tech. As others have said, it’s most likely that the pain is due to your hands being moved about by someone else. Try to relax your hands as much as possible but talk to your nail tech and explain the situation - if she understands then she will be able to make movements that are going to be less painful for you.

hi! Not related to OP (sorry hope that’s ok) but I want to be a nail tech and I worry about how hard it will be with fibro - do you struggle? My hands always hurt but hurt a lot more with excessive use. Do you have ways to work around it successfully? I do my own nails, self taught, and I have trouble sometimes because of my pain.

Yes I do experience bad pain in my fingers few years now and I'm suffering with Fibromyalgia for more the 20 years .

I changed lots of tablets but not good for me getting worse every year, now I'm on pinnacle hemp cbd oil for a year with the pain in my body and migraine much better but with the pain in my fingers still there not as often. Fogines of the brain still there , tinnitus still the same bit improved my IBS.

Now I'm looking for remedies to foggy brain and to be able to concentrate and not to get tired so often but I don't want to come back to medicine again.

Hope my answer help you.

Take care and keep on going.🙂🌹

Hi I used to have acrylic now gel, I do it myself because it’s too painful to sit still for any length of time, doing it myself I can stop and move around if need be, I wouldn’t stop because I feel good with my nails looking nice. Xxx

Having my nails done is one treat I won't give up on, like getting my grey hairs dyed and eyebrows tinted. Even if I feel lousy I can at least look ok! I have onset OA in my fingers and tendinitis in my arms and shoulders, by the time my tech has finished pushing and pulling my hands about I am in pain in every part of me - the fibro definitely does not improve my sense of well-being! Newly applied acrylic will contract as it dries and it feels as if it is 'pulling' on my fingers. BUT I am not giving up on my nails until I cannot get to the shop, even then @I might consider seeking out a mobile tech.
