Fibromyalgia +wasp sting

I have fibromyalgia. In august this year I was stung by a wasp in my right knee. I know I’m alergic to some degree and I was stung on my 18th birthday, I’m 47 now, and ended up in hospital. Anyway I have been in agony in my knee since. I had an x ray done yesterday and was told my knee looked perfect. I’m seeing an allergy specialist on 27th December but wondered has anyone else experienced this??

Last year I was stung 13 times by wasps, hundreds of the little darlings - I even got stung on my bare bum when I sat on one as I got into the pool - it was having a drink from my pool at the time. Each reaction was worse than the previous one and I am sure my fibro symptoms have been worse since then. Most stings were on my feet, they climbed onto my flip-flops and thought I needed reminding they were there. I have had much discomfort in my toes ever since. Lemon juice rubbed on and an antihistamine each time.

Only one sting this year when I leant back on one who was napping on my sofa.

OMG !!

I thought it was bad when the person behind me on a coach trip swatted a wasp, it fell onto my seat, then unfortunately I sat on it. Ouch! I had to sit on my left bum cheek for the next 3 hours.

Can’t imagine how it felt to be stung so many times. You poor thing.

I think that any shock or trauma affects fibromyalgia in the short or long term.

On the plus side: I bet your feet smell lovely and fresh with all that lemon !!

Pjt, good luck with the specialist.

Gee you age quick! if you was 18 in August now 47 so by next August you'll be around a 100? :-o

I said the last time I was stung I was 18! I’m now 47! You are seriously going to blame being rude on being autistic!? My bosses son is autistic(severely so) so I don’t think it’s fair to blame that!

As above I am pretty sure this member was having a little joke with you - if you are on site and feel anyone is being rude always report using the arrow down on the comment and Admin will look into it, rather than replying and causing further disruption.

You can always ask a member to clarify what they mean as the written word is often misinterpreted.

Hope this helps

Emma :)

No This is what you typed! (I was stung on my 18th birthday, I’m 47 now)

I'm not trying to blame it on anything But on the other hand if you have an Attitude or personalitiy issue that is something you can get help with?

Most people on here are very friendly and have a good laugh. But!!!

Do you still have this wound that is not healing? I had similar and bought a home device for Acne Light Therapy (blue, red, green, white) and this therapy has helped. I also mentioned to family & friends that it is helping with the pain but unsure whether this is the light therapy, or trying to help my gut (leaky gut & Small Intestinal Bacteria Overgrowth) or even a placebo !

What do you take for your pain or which coping mechanisms/complementary therapies to control your Fibro symptoms? Have you spoken to your GP about the reaction to the Wasp sting and the pain? If so, what have they suggested for both issues. Sorry for all the questions trying to find out whether they have mentioned a pain clinic referral or anything for the possible allergic reaction from the sting.

I look forward to your reply~

Emma :)

Hi the site where I was stung has left a red mark. I am going to see an allergy specialist on the 27th dec. I have just had xrays done and from what I could see there is no arthritis or wear and tear. I have had lots of xrays so have a rough idea of what I could see. Radiographer also said it looked perfect. I was just given extra co codamol by my GP. I already use pregablin, amitriptyline, etopan, vitamin D, co codamol. I have had pain management in the past but I don’t think that it was worth it for me as I am a positive person despite being in agony. I made myself go out last night even though I didn’t want to. I was I a lot of pain and the thought of mingling with a lot of people I didn’t know scary. I got home at 11 and was exhausted. Which in turn has a knock on effect. I still work 16hrs a week even though different physios have said I should stop work. I’m not ready to give in yet. I believe in positive thinking and do what I can. My rheumatologist once told me I had the pain meds of a cancer patient. I have had 4 surgeries on my right foot and surgery on my right shoulder 6 months ago. I also had plantar fasciitis which was treated with physio, electric pulse therapy and acupuncture. Which in the sole of your feet and heel is extremely painful. I’m used to the inside of a hospital unfortunately.

Hello Pjt90

I understand, it's a difficult condition to manage. Have you looked into Leaky Gut and SIBO as mentioned above sometimes if you have any issues here they can have an impact and cause symptoms to worsen.

Also have you ever been prescribed Capsaicin cream for pain, made from Capsicum peppers and said to decrease levels of Substance P (excitable to pain) as we are reported to have 3 times the amount than healthy people. Some people find it helpful , although if sensitive to medication might be best avoided as very hot (hotter than deep heat!) and the use of gloves/ 24hr patch test advisable. Here's a link with more information;

Others find Epsom Salt Baths, TENS Machines and various other complementary therapies helpful - have you looked into any of these?

I sincerely hope this is helpful

Emma :)

P.S. I nearly missed your reply as didn't receive a notification, if you want to reply to someone it is best to click the reply under their comment and they will be notified. Here's a link that helps explain :)
