tai chi and fibromyalgia
Yes, yes, yes! I began Tai Chi a few months ago, specifically to help with my fibro, hoping that it would help my balance & co-ordination - it has proved to be a fantastic help! Because it is very slow & gentle, it doesn't feel like exercise, but it certainly is. During the class I get so 'lost' in what I'm doing, that I barely notice my crippling pain. My balance is much improved,as is my co-ordination. I wholeheartedly recommend it. It may not be right for you but it is certainly worth a try. I am actually hoping to take a 2nd weekly class (with the same tutor) because it helps me so much. I say GO FOR IT !
Hi, I did tai chi on my Pain Management programme, you are concentrating on the moves and if you really get into it you go into a kind of trance and dont think about anything, even your pain. It is really good so give it a chance x
you can get some good dvds too. though most of them are rubbish and should be avoided like the plague! there is a couple by a little chinese man, cant remember his name (thats helpful, i know!). but its tai chi for arthritis i looked at it and it does look good. It's not full blown tai chi which can be bit too much, and goes through each step, etc and you could work from that. although nothing beats a teacher who can correct posture and positions for you. but if you dont have time for classes its better than nothing!xx
I go to Sun Style Tao Chi classes. Sun Style is for Health issues. The Instructors are a husband and wife. One takes the beginners the other those who have passed that stage. So good for my Fibromyalgia. Sun Style Videos are on Utube. Yes there are some videos that are rubbish. Can Do more harm than good.xx
Go for it. I don't do Tai Chi myself but I do Tang Soo Do (korean karate) twice a week (I trained before I was diagnosed ) and I feel amazing after it and the day after and the pain is less the day after. Dont get me wrong I have to take pain killers before class if Im in a bad phase. I also have a great team of instructors that are aware of the fibro which I find helps
Lynn i will be the one falling over my feet at the back of the class.even before the fbro i was the clumsiest least co ordinated personin the world, and the fibro has only made it worse
Lynn - thank you for making me smile! I would probably be the same!!
Lynn youll be amazed at how addictive these classes can be. . Ill say to you as I do to anyone that says they cant do Tang Soo Do when they ask what it is. "You wont know till you give it a try" ;o)
I have the CD on Tai Chi had to order it but must admit I do not use it often - heard it is best if you do it with a group. Thing is each day like us all is a different day much worse than others and have to travel to get their by taxi each time plus I am not reliable to turn up on specific days!
