After advice from friends and family, I applied for PIP back in September (or so). There was a delay in me returning the filled in form (pardon me I'm sure). I telephoned the PIP 'handling site', explained my situation, and asked for a further extension for return. I received a yes (after being on hold 30 minutes), giving me a further 7 days in which to complete said form.
Posted 'said form', 3 days prior to return by date, by 1st class post.
Received a 'we are not going to continue your claim, due to the lateness in your reply (or some such s... stuff).
Sat seething for a while, then concocted and posted a reply, 3 days after receipt of their decision.
Now awaiting with baited breath ...
Q. Has anyone out there had this kind of 'response' from these ... people?

Hi
No, I haven't but I can see them doing it at every opportunity . If you phone up put it on loud speaker so that you can record what they say, they can't get out of it, then. There will be details in your phone bill of how long you were in the phone to them when you were asking about an extension. Please don't give up. We are all here for you. Please take care of yourself Lynne
Sadly from Past experience it is always better to send by recorded signed for next day post. As others have suggested always best to record any phone conversation.
indeed yes hun if I had a quid for the times Ive fones DWP I wouldnt need any...I asked my local M.P to get involved, he wrote to the then health minister Amber Rudd and together they sorted out my complaint. Its what they are there are for and election time use them well.
Have you only one m.p in your area, that's unusual..you can write to the health minister yourself. Amber Rudd did reply to me and my m.p.they are approachable
For safety it is always better to go for Recorded delivery or Signed for First Class as you know when they have received it so can dispute any claims that they did not get it in time. They were very mingy with only giving you 7 days I must have been lucky as my computer which had all the PIP stuff on it as I have difficulty writing for any length of time because of the fibro and arthritis in my hands and my printer must have been in the same union as they broke down within a day of each other. I rang up and explained and they were good enough to give me 2 weeks. I managed to have the computer repaired and the documents fortunately retrieved and buy a new printer just in time to send the stuff off and get it there by the deadline but I have to admit it was a close thing.
I do hope you are successful will keep fingers crossed for you.x
