Fibromyalgia/ Gout

Hi fellow sufferers

I have had Fibromyalgia for about 10 years. During this time I have had every medicine under the sun with no real affect with releasing my pain.

However just recently had to have a blood test due to my severe pain over all my body. I got an urgent call from my Gp next day as test results showed extremely high levels of Uric acid in my bloods resulting in being diagnosed with gout.

I had stopped all medication for Fibromyalgia because I felt the side effects from them were worse than the body pain and made me loose myself in the process.

Anyway I had to take Colchicine for the gout for three days x 4 tablets and then a reduced dose of two tablets daily. After two weeks I was then given allopurinol one tablet per day along with the 2 Colchicine tablets.

The strangest thing has happened that my pain that was wide spread in my body hands, feet, knees upper limbs have all almost gone. I like most Fibromyalgia had many varying degrees of pain from this devastating illness .

I have had no side effects from taking the pills, but have also benefited from less water retention and swelling

Don’t know if this is just a glitch but thought it might help other Fibromyalgia suffers.

No pain killers I had taken in mass ever helped my pain until two months ago when the blood test showed Gout and I was given this medicine to reduce the Uric Acid levels in my body.

Hi

It is but I am a frequent forgetful pill taker. I have found that if I don’t take the pills my pain increases dramatically.

Hi Tosca,

I know nothing about the two meds - cholchicine and allopurinol - but hope your symptom relief continues. May be worth trying to figure out why this might have happened by looking into the effects of these ?

Pleased to advise a friend of mine has found GREAT relief from the symptoms of gout, by increasing fibre intake. He did this by taking psyllium husk every day ( which is 75%+ fibre) and I suggested he could also add to that daily amounts of chia seeds ( given as ~30%+ fibre). This simple, safe and inexpensive strategy also lowered his raised LDL cholesterol - the 'bad' stuff: he reports feeling considerably better by doing this.

I've recently discovered that cinnamon is also more than 50% fibre, and said to have a range of health benefits. Ceylon, or "true" cinnamon is viewed as the more superior variety ( - compared to Cassia, or Chinese cinnamon, which is more widely available & less expensive).

Hope the above is of some help !

Thank you for this as I also have very high cholesterol and I follow a healthy diet. Will certainly look into those for my gout.
