Lipoma lumps fibromyalgia

Researched and have multiple lipoma's from head down to my tailbone. Diagnosed with fibromyalgia 7yrs ago but had symptoms for over 20yrs! Going to seek medical advice equipt with right information. Medication won't work, as I've been on pregrablin for 13yrs for nerve damage/pain down left arm to start with. Lipoma's hurt to touch and have grown, dark red, now in all areas of the lipoma's the nerve pain, numbness pins and needles radiates all down left side of body, from head to toe!!! Main nerve damage is already done even my sciatic nerve, facial arm torso affected all down left side. Told Gp's over the years before during and after my diagnosis 7 yes ago and didn't say anything, I asked them to feel the obvious lumps!! so had to figure it out the hard way and here I am.. So first port of call is medication, which won't won't work for me as still taking pregrablin for 13yrs before fibromyalgia diagnosis! and before and after lipoma's popped up they hurt to touch and got larger and very irritating so much can't sit or sleep on left side of body. I thank you in advance if anyone is experienced this and any knowledge on these matters will be much appreciated. Thank you!!! I'm going to seek medical advice of course as information shared can be invaluable to some! Thanks

Hi Meemee

Sorry to hear you have multiple lipomas. I had just the one which was getting bigger & I had it surgically removed earlier this year. I was waiting about 12 months& so far so good as I was told it could grow back. As far as I know there’s no medicine that can reduce them. They’re not fibro related.?

Maybe go back to your GP & ask for a referral to have them removed. Good luck & best wishes

Thank you Angela

I appreciate your insight in that you had one and got it removed! I will definitely go to my GP and ask for referral to have removed as they're prominent and so irritating pressing on main nerves! Thanks again for letting me know!

Hi, I have 3 lipomas that recur, had them 40+ years, they last years with minimal pain, they eventually pop and leak, itchy / sore, then, after a few years regrow, in same place - top of head, right armpit and tailbone; doc said nothing can be done, hey ho; was offered surgical removal but refused - did not want extra pain and would not prevent regrowth

Sorry not to be able to offer advice but I do hope your gp has some advice and support for you

Ann xx

HiThanks for sharing your experience with this! That is such A pain for you if they keep coming back even after surgery! Wow! I was thinking I just want them removed as the one near tailbone is so sore I can't sit on left side. And worried about surgery as I know for a fact they're pressing on main nerves! Which I'm guessing will be more difficult to remove due to nerves which could be more damaging with surgical removal! Have to wait get GP to refer me to right doctor for further investigations as I just want them removed they're so irritating and pain and disrupting my daily life, sleep everything.

Thanks again for sharing that's very useful information for me!

Hi memees, this probably won't help but I have looked into these lumps for many years. Yes, they are usually called lipomas but I found chiropracters online who called them back mice, perineural cysts, neural fibromas, etc. It's been frustrating but this definition seems to be closer to what I have observed: Diffuse neurofibromas also grow in the skin, but not just on the surface — they can penetrate deep into several layers of the skin and down to the base layer (fascia). Recently there has been a series explaining fascia which has many definitions but basically it is a thin or thick substance wrapping the organs and giving the body its structure. Surgeons often would cut through it and discard it but now realize it has an important function and can transmit pain. Whether it has anything to do with the formation of these "lipomas" is one question but there are probably many others. A plastic surgeon may try to remove them, gabapentin can temporarily ease the pain for some of them but as with any other condition it may come down to gut health, detoxing and avoiding triggers.

Best wishes.

Hi HeloiseThanks for your information, that's a lot of good research you're doing!

I'm on pregrablin for fibromyalgia and have had these lumps for years, they're definitely pressing on some main nerves, which in turn makes everything more painful!

I will have to seek medical advice and prob opt for the surgery option as there's nothing else they can do.

Thanks again for your reply and info I have it now and can refer back to it once when I'm looking info up myself. Most important when I get some answers and or treatment.

Cheers!

Best wishes, memees. Also consider your thyroid since a major symptom is the effect on smooth muscle. When thyroid hormone is low the adrenal gland picks up the slack with cortisol and adrenaline which affects the nervous system. Finding root causes are usually not the province of conventional doctors. Functional doctors understand the relationships in the entire body. Many chiropractors have more knowledge and I often recommend John Bergman on You Tube for good information on body function.

HiI will definitely have a look on the YouTube channel and I understand what you mean about conventional dr's! So will press for other investigations as it's affecting all the left side of my body's main nerves i.e. from head to toe and my sciatica nerve and coxyx tailbone on left so hard to sit down properly!

Thanks again for all your information you shared I really appreciate it and am getting on the case soon as, it's been going on too long! This is like a major constant flare up not just flare ups!

Cheers

There must be something to that one-sided thing. Mine are all on the right side. I thought it might be connected to the vagus nerve since it travels but it all starts in the hypothalamus and when that's overloaded you are in chronic stress. There are exercises to help relieve stress. I like this new one where you take a deep breath (always important) and then let it out with a big sigh.

Take care, memees.

Hi, I have fibromyalgia and also lots of lipomas! I've had one in my thigh since my early 20's, the other all appeared in my last 30s.I had 2 small ones removed from my thigh a couple of years ago. You can only get them removed on the NHS if they are causing pain. It's a very simple procedure to remove them, only takes a few mins.

I have a large one on my back that has been checked with ultrasound, and still some in my thighs.

Hope you get it sorted ☺

Hi CamilleThank you very much...yes they're causing pain and pressing on main nerves upper left one in shoulder blade radiates all round neck arm back etc and it's bit dark red so looks angry! Few others but another large one is pressing on sciatica nerve all down left lower back, leg and coxyx tailbone making it very painful to sit down so have to lean and sit on right side of body. I've had them for years so time to get them investigated something has to be done it's affecting my day to day if fibro isn't bad enough!

Thank you so much will see my GP get referrals and hopefully some help surgical rout!👍
