Hi

Do sorry you are suffering. Could your GP not refer you to have a pain injection? Please take care Lynne

That's all the GPs ever seen to do. "Take this and if it's no better come back!" So you go back...."Try this drug and if it's no better come back!"

Then you feel like a hypochondriac cos your always at the doctors.

I am going to docs today (if l can get an appointment)

Having had a continual headache/ dizziness since having a lumbar puncture a month ago. And l am going to insist on an investigation.

You should ask to see another doctor and do the same.

We really shouldn't have to suffer....does the doctor know that amitriptyline doesn't suit you? I think we know our body's and when something isn't right. And don't get me wrong l appreciate our NHS and how difficult it is for our GPs at the moment. But l do think people with chronic conditions like ours get a rough ride at times.

Hark at me! Being all assertive!

I will probably get a telephone call from doc at best and just do as I'm told and try yet another drug, and if it doesn't work go back......😕

I hope she said she would do a referral for you, is she your regular doc as you could get a 2nd opinion, she has also given you meds that don’t suit you , not nice feeling down so maybe call the surgery and see someone else, not all doctors will have the same view good luck and take care xx

So sorry to read your post as it seems such a familiar story on our forum. It seems stupid to me to give you a drug that has already upset your body it is as though she hasn't been listening to you. I would honestly book an appointment with another GP at the practice and ask their opinion. I know I would only go to my designated doctor at my practice as just one phone call put me off her as she didn't listen, others have found the same. Someone recommended one of the other doctors and he is lovely and actually listens. No he hasn't been able to do anything more for my fibro as he felt the meds I was on given to me by a doctor at a previous practice and verified by a pain specialist are the best but he is sympathetic and reassuring. I do hope you get your referral.x

I agree with rosewine on this. Too many of us get dismissed with take this and go.As the patient if you want a different opinion ask for it.The GP practice will have a practice manager so at last resort ask to talk to them about GP ignoring your issue on meds that are not suiting you. I cannot take amytripteline either I use Citalopram low dose at night only. Finally if there is a support group near you (check fma.org.uk/groups) go along members often have local information on specialist and treatments worth knowing.

Gentle hugs
