Taking Vitamin D

My renal doctor said my blood work showed I was low in Vitamin D, high blood calcium and high parathyroid levels. I have had 2 times in which my parathyroid has been overactive and I have had parts of it removed. My doctor thinks that is what I may have again. But I have some new symptoms now. Could you give me some input. I have an occasional panic attack anyway but now I have several a day, I have darkening of my skin when I’ve not been in the sun, I have frequent bathroom trips, irritability, severe muscle cramps and really bad fatigue. What do you think is going on.

I also have long standing fibromyalgia and R. A.

Thank you for your input.

You have 4 parathyroid glands so are you saying you have had 2 removed already ? Secondary hyperparathyroidism is common in renal patients but also if hyperparathyroidism keeps returning you may have familial hpth which is a genetic problem.

If further surgery is not an option there is a medication called Cinacalcet which controls levels.

Hi there Muggsy, I have had panic attacks , being very anxious , I think for me was when our bodies are not working very well feeling fatigue and poorly your mind can go into over drive and you get very churned up about everything, I’m pretty sure this is what happened to me, my advice I would go back and speak to your doctor and differently mention these panic attacks as they are getting more frequent. I am on medication to help this and I have felt so much better for it, not for everyone but has certainly stopped mine. Take care.

Thank you for your advice. I contacted my renal doctor about the new symptoms I began to have. He said for me to immediately stop all my vitamin D and see if I can get a soon appt with my endocrinologist. My renal is almost for sure Hyperparathyroidism. My appointment to see my endocrinologist is May 1st. Wish me luck
