In February I was diagnosed with a sinus infection. Three different antibiotics and no relief. Stuffy nose for a month. I saw an ENT and he said my nose looked healthy. He diagnosed me with non allergic rhinitis. I have a panic attack disorder and I am stressing over loosing my sense of smell or weather this will clear up and I will not know it. Please help...

Good morning:) and welcome to the group. I deleted your other post has it was the same one has this. That will stop confusing members and all if any replies will be seen here.

I see you you are from the US this is a UK site I'm not sure if you was aware of this.

While you are very welcome I am wondering if you also know this is also a Fibromyalgia support forum? No one here is trained to give you medical advice I'm afraid.

I suggest you make an appointment to speak with your doctor. I have always suffered with horrible sinus problems. But I have to say so far I have never lost my sense of smell. In fact for me it seems to heighten it.

Hello Kat. Read ur post and thought it'might be what I'm fighting with. Hope not. A fungal sinus infection. I know you've probably heard of candida. I can't take Nystatin or diflucan because of the severe itching and other things. So I change my diet, to no refined foods, only whole, except for dairy because it made it worse. I've had many many problems with balancing fibromyalgia all my life, but this fungal infection has really made it extremely difficult. Some symptoms I'm never knew about were extreme anxiety, racing thoughts severe depression, not sleeping, confusion. it's worth talking to Dr, maybe getting a breath test if you can find no other answer. Some say thyroid causes problems with Candida. And right now mine needs to be adjusted and ironically I'm having the most trouble too. hopefully when I increase my thyroid medication it will get better. Here in the US, it seems that a lot of doctors do not believe candida is so serious. For us it definitely is. I saw a study that said the majority of people with sinus infections have a fungal infection that they're unaware of. When treated with fungal medicine the sinus prob, chronic or not, went away. I think it was in Sweden or Switzerland and it was 90%. You can Google it. Hope you feel better soon. Sending hugs🌺

Hi Kat, thought I could help settle your nerves a little, I was diagnosed with allergic rhinitis when I was very young and know that as it's due to histamine levels being too high, antibiotics and antiseptics won't help. Antihistamines could do the job for you, I take one every day, especially this time of year when pollen is high as it is the pollinating season. Speak to your gp about taking antihistamines on a daily basis. Despite saying non allergic rhinitis, it might be a good idea to take an allergy test. Rhinitis can cause post nasal drip, which can lead to a sore throat and runny nose. Rhinitis doesn't affect your sense of smell, it is your glands having a slight over reaction. Panic not and hope this helps. Rhinitis can be painful (like there's been a brick carefully placed in your forehead!) But it IS manageable. Best wishes to you kat and hope that you begin to feel better. Don't let your panic disorder let your mind run away with you. Read up on rhinitis to gain a better understanding and allow yourself to relax and breathe. Huge hugs x

Hi, try not too panic about it, but I do understand the frustration and worry when you have a problem and can't see a way forward. I am having similar problems at the moment and have been back to the doctors 3 times about it and am still back at square one.

I don't have any advice but just wanted to reassure you and say welcome to this fab site. Do you have Fibromyalgia, you didn't mention it in your post. Good Luck with everything.

Try saline. You can get sterimar in any chemist and on prescription. There is nelimed who have a wide range, again in chemist or on Amazon under health and personal care, there is x clear, which will clear and cleans and reducing pain and inflammation. You can add a few drops of tee tree to the x clear. You can use six times a day. Don't use cortisone sprays for long and try a moisture rich antibiotic cream if it's bad or saline nasal cream, sniff well up and do some breathing exercise and sinus massage to help with draining. I have had sinus problems for many years and it can be hit and miss as to what works. This works now better than anything before. If you use an antihistamine spray, use the saline first, then a mild one.

Take care. Don't get discouraged, there are a number of things to help. Saline cleans, clears, reducing inflammation and pain and increase drainage. Hope you find some relief. Take care.

You could also try a few drops of olbas oil or eucalyptus oil on a hanky, breathing it up nose, the old fashioned in some hot water and breathing or in a stream inhalation or a popo inhaler into the air, or a few drops on clothes and pillows. Vicks is also 👍.

All the very best
