Government has responded to the petition "Change legislation so G.P.s can prescribe medical marijuana for fibromyalgia."
This is not a petition that FMA UK has been promoting as we are participating as stakeholders in the NICE guidance process. It is encouraging in the response to see need for an increased evidence base and the call for research by National Institute for Health Research.
I am pessimistic and I do not think the guidance will specifically mention fibromyalgia as it is not in scope. But chronic pain from any condition that causes it is in scope. I suspect it will not be a first or second line option.
I think the main benefit from this will be the change of schedule and this will allow research to be done and considered.
Thanks. Everything takes such a long time.I don't think that saying. patience is a virtue was ever in my vocab. Progress is always slow.Probably looking at a good few years ahead for any guidance then.
I agree with you Des. Though I was heartened to see that they are not restricting the type of cannabis products, so potentially CBD could become available on prescription. Like you, I feel we’re a good few years away from that happening.
I did hear that the New Zealand government was going to fund research.
