hello all, i am new here and im just looking for fellow fibro fighters who will actually understand what i am saying to them. im looking into going for a blue badge with pip however when it comes to filling out the mobility forms i dont understand if i need to be filling this out as if it is a bad day or a good day because we all know these will be very different scores. if anyone has applied or is going to if they have any advise or pointers on this it would be helpful.

Thank yoou!

Hi

You do it on your bad days

If you are applying for PIP you need to have more bad days then good so 3 days out of seven must be bad ones .

Thank you, to only have three out of seven days bad sounds like a easy week for me, its most days i am in pain, 4-6 days a week in one way or another.

Hi I have just gone through PIP having been on the old scheme for the past 3 years. Fill out your form like its your worst day but do the online version one first as i didnt realise when i filled my form in on my own that things like sitting on my bar stool to peel potatoes was infact an aide, holding the sink to get into and out of the bath was an aide, finding a microwave easier to cook with than an oven scored a point etc. I didnt lie or make anything up but i was so used to doing things a certain way i didnt look at them as aides, i thought they meant physical disabled products i had bought that wasnt the case. I have dystonia a neuro movement disorder but when i read about fibromyalgia it sounds more like that so im going back to see my neurologist. "Invisable" conditions are so difficult and i was told to go to the meeting looking disheveled and depressed but i just went in as me, i wasnt in a wheelchair that day i was on two crutches and the lady just asked a few questions and i left. I didnt drive myself ( i have an adapted car on motability) because i was worried about having to park too far away and i took my mum in with me who made a couple of comments to back me up but didnt say to much but it was nice to have someone with me and i also put copies of the form id filled in and notes about every aspect re dressing, cooking etc as my memory is awful and i wanted to make sure that i didnt miss telling her something important that would/could change my score.

The online score form was the best preperation i did because it made me understand what was important to mention and ok to leave out. Good luck and hopefully you too will have the right outcome x

Hi naanbread, when I apply for anything because of my health I always go by the bad days. Fibro is not well understood so I would not hope for anyone making the decision to take into account there are flare ups, bad days. Keep it simple and use your worst days. Hope it goes well.

Hi naan bread. This is a link to the benefits and work site mentioned above.

benefitsandwork.co.uk

I've used them and they're better than my local CAB. It's essential you focus on all the bad days and don't mention you can only hobble any distance. They use the descriptors to award points so you need to get as many points as possible. And be harsh, don't give yourself the benefit of any doubt and try to be brave. Some councils will award blue badge without higher mobility, so perhaps you could phone your council to find out what they require.

Hi ya, my blue badge has just expired, I've just been told by my support worker, that I can't apply again, as I'm not getting the full amount of pip!!! 😫😫😫

You need to complete it as the most amount of days, can you do it safely, reliably and as many times as required? If not then you're classed as unable to do it. Pip is a minefield. Take your time with the form, give examples of difficulties you have ie whilst cooking xyz happened resulting in xyz so I am now unable to complete xyz safely. Hope that makes sense

Hello all!

thank you all for your tips for pip, i have just done a self assessment of the pip scheme and my results were a score of 15 in daily living component and a score of 8 in mobility. the whole thought of applying for a blue badge is very overwhelming, i am also quite young and fear they will just tell me i am too young for a badge and i wont be taken seriously.

this was just a self assessment also, i dont really know what my next steps are at this stage

Don't worry about your age. I got me 1st blue badge when I was 35 & I wasn't receiving PIP. If you apply without PIP, they are just more thorough with looking at your mobility. Every council is different, so research your area. My council called me and did an interview on the phone which was good. Of course, if you receive high rate mobility the application is far simpler. Definitely use Benefits & Work website for PIP, they have a step by step guide for each question. Good luck
