I have been on gabapentin for 14 months now and having trouble with my gums hurting. They are sore and even when I brush my teeth the toothpaste burns in my mouth. Anyone else having such issues?

Yes, but my dentist has told me that it's related to the fibro and also my diabetes. I've never made any connection before with the Gabapentin, but you could very well be onto something there x

Hi Mule, I have heard of a link between gabapentin and gums. I read it can dry the gums, causing pain, bleeding etc. It might be worth googling it as a while ago it seemed to come up quite a bit. I had several friends write to me telling me they had read about it too xxx

I have had outbreaks of sore gums and mouth ulcers over years. I was told its my immune system. Not had any issues with Gabapentin though. Hope this helps.

Hi Mule4, I have had the same problem. I went to my dentist to get a check up, all was fine. Went to my GP and he said it was a Fibro symptom. When I had dental check up I mentioned this to my dentist and she agreed. Just my experience. Best of luck, gum and teeth aching is not nice.

Had problems with gums due to fibro, have to clean teeth very thoroughly even when sore as receding gums causes tooth lose, I lost quite a few.

Me too. Terrible gum infections.

As others have said with Fybro we have to be extra vigilant in oral hygiene as our bodies produce more plaque than normal resulting if not careful with gum disease..

Twice daily brushing and interdental brushing followed by mouth wash plus hygienist ever third month has been an expensive norm for me this past 40 yrs.. but worth the time and cost to keep my teeth..

I am not saying Gapapentine may also exacerbate this disease it may possibly... I couldn't tolerate it long enough to find out..

Just something else us Fybro suffers have to contend with...

Good luck and keep up the good work with the brushing ..

Carol.

I am on gabapentin I take 600mgs 3 times a day, over the last few years I have lost 5 teeth and suffer with gum disease and have had several abscesses. My dentist told me the only way to stop it was to stop my medication. I cannot do that because the pain is too bad, I tried to stop it but had to go back on it
