I have had underactive thyroid since I was 11 all of my life I was underweight now I'm obese. I believe it's my levothyroxine to blame. I'd like to be referred to a specialist but my docs are not concerned and put my weight down to my age (53) even though I don't sleep I'm tired all the time my hair is limp, I can't stand the windows closed or heating on. This is really affecting my mental health.

How can I get my doctor to listen and take me seriously.
Do you have any print outs of your most recent blood test results ? What dose Levothyroxine are you on?
Have you ever had Thyroid Antibodies tested - TPO and Tg?
Have you ever had the following nutrients levels tested :
Vitamin D, Calcium;
B12, Folate and Ferritin?
If not, ask your GP .
If you repeat your post over on the Thyroid forum and add your latest test results with full details (ranges, lab comment, dates of tests) and Levothyroxine dose and any changes - you should get some replies.
I would suggest doing what I did. I wrote a letter to the doctor listing my concerns and then took it into the receptionist and asked then for a telephone consult to discuss my letter. Gets the doctor's attention with the added bonus of me not having to remember everything as it was all written down. Good luck
Change your doctor
You will get excellent advice on the Thyroid Uk forum, in my opinion you should change to a different doctor x
