Stopped Benefits

Too ill to go for the medical assessment, my feet were twice the size they should be and very painful. Was told by benefit agency to get a taxi, my feet were so bad I could just about stand, never mind put on shoes. They wanted me to go in my bare feet. Even though I told them over the phone and wrote to them before my appointment, they stopped my benefits, first time I have ever missed an appointment. I now have to fight to get them back.... UNBELIEVABLE

Omgoodness, they can’t get away with that, get in touch with whoever it is that deals with this plus your MP how are you meant to live ? and pay bills.

Gentle hugs 🤗🤗

Hi Robbie, I'm not allowed to speak to the people that make these desisions was told to write in and ask for a reconsideration which can take 2 months. They stopped my benefits on Monday and I was due to get paid Wednesday how do they think people manage.

As if your not unwell enough without putting this on you I suppose it’s a mandatory reconsideration, how long do these take. Do you have a partner ? to make sure you survive this appalling system. I’d be exposing them to the press it’s getting beyond a joke now.

I must admit I think I would have shamed them and took a taxi and walked in my bare feet having done a photo of them first with a paper showing the date next to them. I feel so angry on your behalf.x

I did and I had also sent photographs months ago of times before when they had swollen. It was only 2 years ago I had a home visit ( from a so called medical proffesional )and they could see for themselves the state my feet get in.

Mark, they just want us to do what we are told. they need to be seen to be doing something. They always pick on the wrong ones. I know a couple of people, there is nothing wrong with them yet they get more benefits than me, or should I say they get more benefits than I use to. I will some how fight this to the end ( on my goodish days) I have wrote to my M.P. lets see if she can do anything.

Good luck I went with all that and it never made much difference hope you win and they have to back date it there people that don't believe fibromyalgia even is a real life thing so sometimes you feel your banging your head against a brick wall I am sure they just want to push us over the edge don't let them win and don't let them take you sanity keep strong and win x

That's just disgraceful of the DWP telling you to go n in bare feet. I would get some help reinstating your benefits.... I really am disgusted at how they have treated you. Good luck x

Did the GP or a nurse see your feet? If so, this all goes towards proving why you couldn't attend the appointment. I would also speak with the FMAUK Benefits Advisor about this situation, here's a post with her contact details

healthunlocked.com/fibromya...

I hope you get them reinstated as this does seem very unfair, how on earth could you walk with swollen legs and feet? Honestly the stories you hear get worse and worse.

All the best

Emma :)

Disgusting way to be treated in a "civilised country". The country seems to be regressing Why? partly because of benefit cheats we come to this situation. That said you would think there would be some common sense applied and humanity. Hope you get things sorted.

I recently moved house to be closer to my family as I live on my own, so had to get a new doctor. Even though the new doctor issued me with my monthly medication he said because he did not have my medical records there was nothing he could do. So I have now moved to yet another doctors who did not see my feet when they were swollen. I explained this to the benefits agency and asked if they could contact my original doctor from my old address ( who was willing to give them whatever info they needed) they said they could not do this (and would not accept info from a doctor I was no longer with). as they had already contacted my 1st new doctor but he did not have any info about how my illnesses affect me. As I am no longer with this doctor he will not tell the benefits agency about my feet. It's just crazy x

You want to email your MP about them telling you to come in bare feet. It's ignorant and insensitive. Heads should roll for it xx

On the Capita PIP website it says

"Please contact Capita's enquiry centre on 0808 1788 114 to discuss the possibility of re-arranging your appointment. You will only be permitted to cancel an appointment once."

I would imagine Independent Assessment Services (ATOS) are the same, although their website does not say.

The law actually says DWP can re-arrange appointments where the claimant has good reason for not being able to attend. So if Capita or Atos say No, you can ask DWP to over-rule their decision.
