Hi..for many years I believed I had psoriatic arthritis as I have had psoriasis for over 30 years. Have been told today I have fibromyalgia. Not sure that's right though..do your joints swell when painful like mine do. I can relate to some of the symptoms for fibro but not all..confused.com!

Hi - my understanding is that there's no swelling with fibromyalgia. I was given the diagnosis years ago, believed it at first. But then my joint pain got worse, joints started swelling. Got other symptoms too such as dry eyes. Eventually I got a referral to a top rheumy unit and they do now believe I have some kind of inflammatory arthritis. So I suspect fibromyalgia was a misdiagnosis. Rheumatoid arthritis runs in my family too.

So my advice would be to keep pushing if you feel the diagnosis is wrong. At least they can treat inflammatory arthritis. Good luck.

I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia first. Then a couple of years later psoriatic arthritis. My small joints swell i.e. knuckles wrists toes. Think my osteoarthritis is responsible for rest of joints and now consult says I now have arthritis of the lower spine. I now know the difference between arthritis pain a nd fibromyalgia pain. The fibromyalgia hops round the body but doesn't stay more than 3 hrs in one place, but is all day long, and can be in more than one muscle. The arthritis throbs to the point of crying and is related to low air pressure and only the joints, which swell and are knobbly and so very painful. So travelling pain in muscles and semi travelling pain in joints. Both rheumatoid and psoriatic arthritis run thru family but blood test has ruled out rheumatoid. Keep pushing for an answer and if necessary do a pain diary. Good luck x
