Coping with fibromyalgia
healthunlocked.com/fibromya..., morning, there are times I read and for me personally there are days in bed and patches where a flare has kept me in bed longer, it is very hard, I tend to ride it out with bed rest until it passes, medication from doctor, soak in Epsom salts to relax muscles, some people have tried a tens machine for pain ?? I use a rub in pain relief gel on my worst areas which is normally back shoulders neck. I try not too think too far ahead until I feel I can get up and tackle the house etc, my iPad is helpful ,for company, a good film or drama on the tv, and we get to support each other here and a helpful chat is always good xx ps I posted a link should you want to lock your posts for more privacy as only our community can see.
Hi hun,,over the years of suffering has anyone explained "pacing yourself"? That can seem impossible for some but its essential to store energy when its good and not use it up,,I've done it many times and lost days and weeks recovering.
I find that forcing myself to get out of bed and gently moving helps. For me, staying too long in one position makes me stiff until I almost set like concrete!
Also, staying in bed will cause your muscles to lose tone, and make you less able to regain fitness when you are able to move.
It may be the easy option, but you are likely storing up problems for the future. You are still fairly young, and gentle exercise helps.
Fibro is a thief, it steals ability if you let it.
I have decided to treat it as my enemy and fight it all the way; I'm determined not to lose any more of my abilities, and I have lost a lot over the years, rockclimbing, horseriding, fencing, ballroom dancing. It is not taking any more from me without a fight!
cheers, Midori
Good on u it makes it worse for me cause I have other health problems and my mobility isn't good I walk with a frame but thank u for your advice
I too walk with a rollator, or sometimes I use a wheelchair. I'm a week away from 72, (UGH!), and I've had enough of Fibro kicking my backside. I also have multiple conditions, but I only have one life, and I going to live it as best I can, and for what time is left to me.
Cheers, midori
