Hi all for the past 6 months I’ve had all the symptoms of fibromyalgia word for word, I have an ongoing chronic back pain for past 14 years from an accident and orthopaedic Physio accused me of lying to get benefits as mri didn’t show obvious problem !! I am honestly in pain and have fibromyalgia symptoms any help or advice anyone plz .

How dare the physio say that to you! They really do think they're above everyone don't they?! Can't you speak to your gp for more support? Maybe they could get blood tests done for fibro and then refer you to the rheumatologist. I really do feel your pain.

Hi thanx for ure kind reply. I’ve had chronic back pain for past 14 years but carried on working regardless but this last six months not able to hardly sit without pain let alone anything else I’ve had X-ray no obvious spine damage so gp sent me for Physio she was fine but also suggested fibromyalgia and referred me back to GP but in meantime as I said orthopaedic Physio was rude insulting and basically said it’s in my head ! I’m under the mental health primary care who was disgusted at what was said I am currently waiting the two weeks it takes to next see my GP

I can relate to the back pain. I've had a cyst on my spine for 6-7 years. It causes pain in my lower back that radiates down my right leg but with numbness from my lower leg to parts of my foot. I struggle to sit, stand, sleep etc due to the awful pain. I carried on working throughout this time and only had time off for 3 surgeries. I developed fibro as a result of my spinal issues. My consultant doesn't feel surgery is the answer this time so wants me to have a treatment that's not available in my area. As a result of this I've been off sick for over a year and have now had my contract terminated! Sorry for waffling on.

There is no blood tests or x rays for fibro unfortunately.

I had a load of blood tests taken by my gp including inflammatory markers, which came back slightly elevated. This result along with my consultant rheumatologist's consultation was how I got the fibro diagnosis. I agree that there's probably not an X-ray that is able to make the diagnosis.

Yes a Fibro diagnosis is made on what we don't have not what we have. Fibro mimics so many other health problems a good doctor will take many blood tests mainly for elevated markers they want to rule out RA and OR They will have X rays taken and get you checked out by a rheumatoligist. If the tests come back ok your left with Fibromyalgia.

I have had diagnosed fibro for over 30+years but there does not to seem to be anything new in the way of diagnoses. I was re tested for everything under the sun. Bloods ,x Rays MRI all within the last 12 months.

With age things have changed but the fibro remains the same sad to say. I am sorry you have this illness but there is a life after fibro. Maybe not as we knew it but it is not a death sentence. xx

Yeah I agree lol. I've worked all my life and hate having to rely on benefits. Unfortunately it's out of my control though. So so frustrating! It's good to know that we've got this site for support. What medication are you taking Hun? I'd hate to think that you're just having to put up with it!

Hi again I’m on co-codamol 500g diclofenic 90mg duloxotine 60mg aye it’s great to have each other for advice and support. I have chronic back pain numbness in my legs feet forearms and pins needles in feet and hands headaches daily moods depression anxiety sorry but urine dribble after going for a wee I’m having to use women’s pads in my boxers

Wow you really are going through it aren't you. Dribbling urine definitely has to be the icing on the cake lol😉. Sorry I promise i'm not making fun of you. At least you're taking medication but it's only good if it's actually working. I'm taking pregabalin, slow release morphine and duloxetine. I was on a lot more but my pain clinic consultant took me off some of my other medication and tried me on lidocaine patches that were a complete waste of time for me. He doesn't want me to start back on the other meds yet which means I'm really struggling pain wise! Physio said they can only try and strengthen my right side and it probably won't make much difference for pain relief.

I understand an X-ray or mri scan can’t diagnose it I have the Gp considering it his words also Physio it’s just the one negative orthopaedic Physio who says pains in my head ( bearing in mind I’ve been on pain relief and anti inflammatory medication past 14 years)but because I worked until 6 months ago she actually literally said I’m doing it to get benifits i.e dla . I have spoke to a solicitor who has set me up with a solicitor who deals in such law all aggro I don’t need on top of it all

Wow you really do have a lot on your plate don't you? You're obviously a hard worker so why would you make it all up. If you're anything like me you just want to feel well enough to get back to work. Some ignorant people clearly don't have a clue how debilitating it is being in pain and constantly having to take medication!

I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia. Had every symptom plus more. Felt awful for years. I also was going through menopause... took hrt and my symptoms disappeared. A lot of fibromyalgia symptoms are the same as menopause. I felt so ill all the time. Joint pain, tinnitus (referred to neurologist) TMJ, gastritis, blurred vision, headaches, brain fog etc. honestly I feel like a new person x

I can defo relate to this. Physio put me on traction as i had pain on the side of my knee for 9months that would not go away. On about my 4th traction he said he was going to Australia so would up my traction. He put me on traction machine then left me, as your strapped down i couldnt do anything to stop it. The pain was really bad. I got a taxi home. The next day was pure agony. Pain shooting down my leg. Went to doctors he said i shouldnt of had traction. They kept me at pain clinic for 2 nd a half years no m.r.i scan said nothing would show not even an xray. A nurce who was leaving told me they are keeping me for 3 years so i couldnt sue them. I went to complain to another doctor she rang them as my foot was going numb. They sent a taxi for me to get xray and filled a card in for me to get m.r.i scan. Scan showed disc out and other problembs.had an operation helped a little. This happend in 2004 and its still not fixed. I was doing ok with a pain injection every year but nurce messed up on last injection and has sent me back 10 years. Now got pain down both legs. Awaiting to see special doctor and also seen my results by accident. I just carnt belive the mess my back is in but he has left it too late as my health got worse says anaestetic would be bad for me. They have totally spoilt my retirement and the end of my life. But what can you do ?

I was also sent for pysio on my lower back when I was 21 years old they also put me on traction and was I agony was crying they said it would do me good I could hardly walk and at home I had a 1 year old daughter to care for the pain got worse as the days went on I didn't go back for any more over the years the gp has sent me for pysio on my back again not traction .. my knees my hands my neck my feet and each time ive been in so much pain I'm now down as being a no touch if I have to go . I was diagnosed in my 30's as having osteoporosis in my lower spine and syaticia know I'm 52 I got a copy of my medical file and was shocked my doctor recons he diagnosed me in 2001 with ME he did mention it but laughed because I asked if I could have fibromialga but he didn't give me any medication . But I have been properly diagnosed with fibro. Osteoarthritis.in my .wrist .knees and Osteoporosis.lower back Copd . Cad . Server depression were i have suicide thoughts so im not allowed to keep all my medication in my house my daughter keeps hold of it and its in blister packs i have bad anxiety attacks so I'm classed as having mental health issues now I've been told I have acid reflux and with the copd the acid is going into my lungs which is causing my food to get stuck and the pain in my chest is really painful so got to have the camera down my throat now to see whats going on . But when asking questions now im getting told if I had of started treatment in the begunning I wouldn't be this bad
