I am new here and this is my first post so just thought I’d ask a few things if that’s okay I am a 33 yr old mother of two and newly diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and not sure if some symptoms relate to it or not as my gp is really vague
Over the past few months I have experienced on and off pain in my shoulders, neck, legs, bum and my ribs, I also suffer from anxiety, especially health anxiety so this is all driving me into a spin and this flares up my nausea and loose bowel movements are all these symptoms of my fibromyalgia?
Thanks so much for reading x

Welcome. Yes unfortunately these are all symptoms of fibro. It can be all over your body or move around with certain parts being much worse than others. Many of us have IBS which can make us feel nauseous and we can have either constipation and or diarrhoea or they can alternate. You will probably feel very fatigued and have headaches and these symptoms can differ from day to day and your to hour.
Do try and pace yourself rather than fight it as that tends only to make the symptoms more acute. Have a look at our mother site Fibromyalgia Action UK as I tells you all about fibro and the different symptoms and you might find it helpful.x
Great thank you so much for replying, although it’s been a tough few months it’s so nice to know I am not alone with this x
Also, sorry forgot to ask do you suffer from swollen lymph nodes, I have a couple in my groin and one under my arm that the gp checked and said were okay but just wondered if it was linked to the fibro? Xx
I was kind of hoping they were really as all I keep thinking about is other things with the swollen lymph nodes like lymphoma as my health anxiety gets really bad , really helpful to know that it is linked thank you for your reply xx
Welcome - you’re in the right place! This Forum will be a godsend for you. If your GP is being vague, try asking for a referral to a rheumatologist or to the local chronic pain management service - or both. These are specialists who can help you understand fibro better and also offer some different treatments.
If you like reading, there’s a book called The Fibro Manual by Ginevra Liptan (£12 on Amazon). She is a medical doctor who has fibro herself. It’s an excellent book. Explains a lot but also has many self-help tips.
For the anxiety, perhaps try some simple meditation - even if it sounds or feels silly. There is a good free app called Headspace. Give it a go!
My only other advice is to think that while the fibro might not go away, you will get more experienced at managing it. I don’t have kids (just a dog!) but I am 36 and still work a very stressful full-time job. I refuse to be limited or defined by my fibro - and this helps me to cope on a daily basis.
I asked my doc to refer me to a rheumatologist but as I am not swollen or bloods showing any arthritis he said they wont see me
I've was under the pain clinic for years but they discharged as they say there is nothing more they can do for me (mainly trying to get medication to work). Do you think I should push to see a rheumatologist?
Sorry to hear that. It’s like they just don’t care sometimes.
Personally, I would definitely push to be seen by a rheumatologist. If you put the request in writing - letter or email - saying you have fibro (or suspected fibro if not formally diagnosed) and would like to see a rheumatologist to help with treatment, then you may find the GP is more proactive! They hate having things on file!!
One of my first fibromyalgia symptoms (before diagnosis) was raised lymph glands in my armpits. Of course I got them checked out, but nothing obvious. I find that mine come up and go away at random!! Maybe this is suggesting that fibromyalgia is caused by some kind of infectious agent or maybe fibromyalgia may cause your body's immune system to be in a state of heightened response
. I don't know if you have already looked at the mother website for this group, it has lots of useful information and it explains all the symptoms, you may find it useful, fmauk.org
Hello! I’m by no means an expert but unfortunately that were my starting symptoms, among others, but each person is different and so is each hour! Hope you feel better soon
By the way I do like your name, I do wonder where people get their names from.
Everything you mentioned are symptoms of Fibromyalgia, I have no experience with Lymph glands but I'm sure there will be others on this brilliant site who can tell you more.
As for the health anxiety, I'm sure that's just another word for concern for your body and wellbeing. I have these same thoughts everyday and I'm sure others do as well.
So, now you've joined this community you will find all the help and reassurance you need.
Hi Pepperman07 , I am sorry you have fibro and I am sure you will have lots of questions but I see you have already had some helpful replies from some of our friendly members. Many of us will definitely relate to the symptoms you have mentioned, I know the glands under my chin often feel swollen and tender. However we have to be mindful not to automatically attribute them to fibro so you were right to get your lymph nodes checked by your GP. However I understand that it is worrying when you develop so many different symptoms but now that you have joined the forum, you will hopefully have some of your anxiety eased and know that you're not alone by sharing experiences with other sufferers. I see you have already been pointed in the direction of our main site which is worth a peek at as it contains plenty of useful information and links. I also notice that you have not locked your post. You don't have to but many of our members are not too keen on responding to unlocked ones therefore you are likely to receive more replies if you do, as it prevents the whole thread being read by internet search engines. Instructions on how to do this can be found on the link below but if you get stuck please don’t hesitate to ask for help.
