Palpitations waking me all night.

Hi everyone

Since last Friday I have woken up 3 to 5 times a night with palpitations & and adrenaline bursts. When I sit up they eventually stop.

The dr has give me a low dose beta blocker bisopropolol, which has calmed it a bit but i am still waking with it, whatever is happening seems to be making my spams worse.doc also gave me acid reflux meds.

I ended up in A&e one of the nights they did a quick check of my heart ecg said it was regular, X-ray was fine.

Feels like I'm having strange panick attacks in my sleep, but I'm not stressed.my doc gave me a potable ecg to use over night he said it was regular but quite high beats.

Seems to be worse when I lay to the left, but again only happening in sleep.

This is so frustrating, I'm exhausted on top of usual fibro stuff.

Eme65 I cant sleep on my back, I do have a remote control bed now but before that I made an armchair with pillows,, one base pillows 2 standing upright at each side and a further one on top, that kept me upright most of the night.

You'd need a 24 hr or longer holter monitor to check your ECG.

Sorry you are suffering in this way it is awful and very scary. I suffer from severe panic attacks and the ones where you jump up in the night with them are the worst. Touch wood i don't get the night time attacks often these day but i completely understand how you feel. I take diazepam when it is needed to control the panic amongst other things it does not suit everyone but it works for me.

If the medication you have been given is not helping or not working for you then could I suggest you let your GP know. They maybe able to try you on something else.

Sadly you don't need a trigger for panic attack to strike, do make sure you see your GP if it continues. I can assure you that I get panic attacks out of the blue, I'm an old hand at coping with them now. Make sure you get checked for diabetes and thyroid function if this hasn't been done. I hope you feel better soon xx

I had them a few years ago mainly at night and they can be frightening - which in turn increases worry which in turn increases heart rate and palpitations! In the end it settled down once I came off HRT patch. Hormones are powerful little things and a lot of women get palps around menopause! If your GP thinks theres nothing wrong with your heart its just a matter of trying to calm the palps down which the b-blocker will do but also deep breathing and focussing on keeping calm will help

Thanks ladies

I really think this is menopause related, I had a hysterectomy 10 years ago, ovaries left . I have had a couple of hot flushes & anxiety has stirred up again which is just annoying as I meditate a lot, I'm calm throughout the day but this all hits me in sleep, spasms palpitations & adrenalin surges.

The only thing that is knocking me out is half a zoplicone tablet which gives me about 4 hrs sleep if I'm lucky. I know for a fact dr won't give me any more & I don't like taking them anyway. Maybe hrt is the way forward.
