Hey everyone so it's Friday night here and I've just climbed into bed with my faithful hottie (2 actually - one for my shoulder and one for my tummy) an it just occurred to me .... for the last couple of weeks I've been feeling a bit out of sorts and feel like I'm struggling to take a decent breath, I've lost my appetite and I can barely eat one or two mouthfuls of food before I get that 'oh my god I can't possibly fit any more in' feeling. I'm wondering if I'm seriously bloated (although I don't have gas or belching or anything?) or is it possibly a side effect of the Gabapentin? Or is it a flare of fm of some sort? The other thing I've noticed, is it feels weird when I swallow - like my throat is trying to push food up, not down!!! I get this periodically and it lasts for a few weeks and then returns to normal. Any ideas anybody pleeeease? I'd quite like to eat a reasonable meal and not have it go up to my sinuses!! π³π³. TIA and squishy hugs to any of u that need one x
Maybe bloat???: Hey everyone so it's... - Fibromyalgia Acti...
Maybe bloat???
It could be down to acid in the gut I would get to the doctor and describe the symptoms to him/her they will give you something called lanzoprozol or omperozol I think that's how they are spelt take it for a few weeks you will feel the difference
Hi Leemaree44 I am so sorry you are feeling like this I do hope things improve very soon. Can I recommend a visit to your GP as I'm not a professional I would not like to say for definite but I think it could be gastric related.
Please do seek some advice as it is better to know for sure.
God luck my friend
xx
Hi Leemaree44 I get the very same thing and I don't know what it is either but I don't take Gabapentin, I take, what's quite often referred to its sister drug, Pregablin & taken it for years.
I have had problems swallowing for a few yrs now & my gp said it was fibro related & muscles in throat. I find now that I can feel food go down my throat & it actually feels really uncomfortable in my upper chest. I choke on the slightest thing, even my own saliva, I get a little trickle at back of throat & start choking like I've swallowed a brick lol.. I get put off eating when I'm like this also. I do also suffer with reflux & indigestion which sometimes wakes me up. I think everything is so sensitive when you have fibro, eyes with light, ears & loud noise, teeth, tummy and of course your throat.
So although I have said all of that, some people do get reaction from gabapentin, although it normally happens in the first few days of taking it. It is a medication that normally increases your appetite but it can in some cases be the other way round. You should always report any new symptoms to your gp because it doesn't necessarily have to be fibro & always best to check it out.
Hope this helps
Luv Jan xx
Hi Leemaree44 . I have noticed lately when I swallow, everything seems to get stuck. Especially my pain meds. I am sorry, but I don't know what it is. As for feeling full, you could have accessive avid. I suffer the ibs with Fibro, and I'm always full up. I have not had a meal in years, I tend to just pick, little and often, or crackers, which I have had to stop seems to get stuck. Maybe you should see your GP and have it checked. Good luck. X
Hi Leemaree44
I am so genuinely sorry to read this and the *eHealth website says that Gabapentin can cause Dysphagia which matches your symptoms. I have pasted an excerpt below:
*Gabapentin and Dysphagia - from FDA reports
Summary
Dysphagia is found among people who take Gabapentin, especially for people who are female, 60+ old , have been taking the drug for < 1 month, also take medication Zometa, and have Pain. This review analyzes which people have Dysphagia with Gabapentin. It is created by eHealthMe based on reports of 95,031 people who have side effects when taking Gabapentin from FDA, and is updated regularly.
However, **Wikki says it can be a conditions in it own right? I have pasted an excerpt from their cache below:
**Dysphagia is the medical term for the symptom of difficulty in swallowing. Although classified under "symptoms and signs" in ICD-10, the term is sometimes used as a condition in its own right. People with dysphagia are sometimes unaware of having it.
If this persists or gets any worse I would definitely have it checked out just to have other medical conditions ruled out of the equation my friend? I want to sincerely wish you all the best of luck and please take care of yourself my friend.
All my hopes and dreams for you

Thank you Ken. Did you have a nice birthday? I suppose I should go see my gp - it's just everything gets put down to fibro so I just think well that was a waste of$18!
Hi Leemaree44 I can genuinely understand where you are coming form as it must feel like you are spending good money for nothing sometimes? I had a wonderful birthday thank you and went to my all time favourite place! A garden and aquatic centre, I spent a fortune lol! I truly hope that you are feeling well today my friend.
All my hopes and dreams for you
