Hi, I am Stefan. I did not know such kind of disease until last week. My GP has diagnosed last week. I have been feeling tired all the time and my muscles are killing me. Some of my friends suggested that I need to swim. Is it useful? or do have any better suggestion?? Please help.

Hello stefan_ and welcome to our friendly fibro forum where you can get help, advice, support and understanding. Our mother site fmauk.org has a wealth of information about fibro, including guides and links.

Gentle swimming is a great exercise and will help to keep you mobile. Try to go to a warm pool and do some gentle stretching exercises as well. When you get out do not hang around as getting cold will undo all your good work.

Some members swear by magnesium oil spray, also Epsom Salts in your bath.

No doubt you will be given other good suggestions by our lovely members.

Hope to see you around the forum

Hi stefan_ welcome to our wonderful forum ☺ I'm sure you will come to find the forum invaluable in chatting to others who are going through the same experience as you, talking to others at different stages of their lives with Fibro and learning from their experiences.

It does help with the whole process and I wish I had found the site years ago. I have had Fibro for nearly 30 yrs and I'm still learning about it, like we all are.

I'm sorry you have just been diagnosed with Fibro. Swimming Is very good because you are using all your muscles & it is easier to move in the water, it also distressed you. Hydrotherapy is very good, heat is good, hot water bottles or heat blanket.

As our lovely bluebell99 says, go and check out the main site & get lots of information about fibro & i look forward to seeing you are the site.l

Peace, luv n light

Hi stefan_

I sincerely hope that you are feeling as well as you possibly can be today? Welcome to the forum and it is wonderful to make your acquaintance. I personally undertake a very gentle 20 minute a day physio routine which I find very useful. I also have a TENS Machine to help with my pain.

I want to sincerely wish you all the best of luck and please take care of yourself my friend.

All my hopes and dreams for you

Hello. It depends on you and the pool. If you get cold then the swim wont help much. If you are going to overdo the exercise ditto. If you chose a warm pool on a nice day and gently loaf around, it might be just the thing. You need to do strokes that are relaxing, not the dreaded head out of the water breaststoke! Taking or borrowing a float is a good plan.

Sometimes after swimming I can be utterly wrecked so go careful. I used to like sea swimming but that is very bad. Far too cold!!!

I find walking good exercise and it helps to keep moving to keep from seizing up and to manage the pain. Inactivity is fatal for me. Sometimes I put music on and have a wiggle around the house. It's one of those odd things. One minute I'm flopped out with pain and fatigue, then later I can get up put the kettle on and while it boils shake things up. Gently, of course. I wont be any winning prizes for my efforts!

Right now, I'm flopped. Need a cup of tea but no energy to get one. Harsh!

Hope you find an exercise that help you.

I would recommend slow walking in the pool to build some muscle as my consultant advised me.
