There was a post about clinical trials the other day.

Problem is I can't remember the title of the post!

I will try to remember it for you. Pretty sure it was at Kings College hospital in London.

I use Pilates. It's good for strength and balance.

You can have a low level or more intense for cardio.

Hi tommo22

If you are going to join a yoga class I would definitely go for a beginners class.

Also see if you can find a teacher that is recommend to you. My yoga teacher was amazing. There was no pressure to push yourself further than you could manage.

Most good yoga teachers will let you do one class, before you sign up to see if it is for you.

I went to yoga for 20 years, but can no longer manage an hour and 45 mins class.

Instead I do stretching (adapting the yoga moves) for 10-15 mins per day.

I hope this helps.

I would say, try to find someone that has been teaching for a while.

Yoga is not a competitive sport and shouldn't be run that way.

Try to get a feel of what the teacher is like. I don't know your capabilities but I would say that an hour class would be more than enough for you.

About 15 mins of that time should be relaxation at the end of the class too.

Some people used to actually fall asleep at that bit when I used to go.

I went to yoga right up until I was 8 months pregnant with my daughter and I was huge! You just did what you could.

It used to be a chore getting there, but I honestly didn't ever realise how good it was for me until I had to stop.

Hi tommo22, until very recently I was doing pilates which is similar. It has really improved my flexibility and core strength. The instructor is very good and gives us an easy or hard version of each posture so that we can choose what to do to suit our individual abilities. Have not managed it for the last few weeks due to a fibro flare but I am planning in starting it again soon.

Hi my friend

I have never done yoga but I do a very gentle daily exercise routine that I undertook with my physio and I personally think it helps me. I want to sincerely wish you all the best of luck and please take care of yourself my friend.

All my hopes and dreams for you

I unfortunately found a strenuous stretching class. Super ouchy!!! Maybe the ones based on breathing and relaxation?

Stretching out our muscles is not helpful I think for many of us. I was flexible then so it looked fairly easy but the pain after? Eek! It is too easy to overdo the stretches.

You may find a good teacher who can bear in mind your Fibro. My Teacher saw I looked fit and flexible and could do the poses with ease. Didn't realise I probably shouldn't be encouraged.

I do yoga and find it beneficial. I would recommend going for a gentle beginners class, though, otherwise you might have your whole body hurting for days afterwards. Even in the beginners class, explain your situation to the teacher before the class, and take regular breaks during a class by just lying on your mat. Myself I do yoga that's meant for elderly people ( I am not elderly myself), as it is more gentle. Good luck!

I have started tai chi (not able to do some of the moves) but find it very helpful also started reflexology and find that is great. I found tai chi on you tube and have done it for a week and feel it is helping me.

I realise that it is not the way to go for others. but I would love to hear if anyone else uses this method for relaxation and diffusing pain a little

hi tommo, was wondering if you had a chance to try tai chi yet. I went on you tube and picked the one that stroke victims use. It is really gentle just sitting or standing.

I had reflexology today so feeling really good.

Hope things go well for you

I can recommend aqua yoga - i find that in warm water I'm far more comfortable anyway, but doing the gentle yoga moves, stretches and relaxation in the water means much less pressure on your joints and no impact on your limbs. I feel very relaxed afterwards and feel the benefit of the gentle stretching and movement which you do at your own level and ability, it shouldn't be uncomfortable at any point. Plus if you are lucky enough to find a friendly class you usually get to have a good laugh with the others while you try some of the exercises and positions, which in itself is relaxing 😊

I've also been attending beginners yoga classes some weeks, very gentle stretching, concentrating on breathing, relaxation and the muscles in the body that we often don't engage with very much. The instructor is very calm and knowledgeable, everything is done at a slow flowing pace and you do what you are comfortable with. Again, come away feeling very relaxed and a lovely feeling of actually having done some activity engaging with my body. It's a nice bit if 'me' time.

Good luck with finding something suitable that you enjoy!

P.s. I've not been diagnosed with fibromyalgia, still in the investigation stages. So anything helps at the moment 😉
