Has anyone tried acupuncture for Fibromyalgia?

My hubby has made me an appointment to have acupuncture tomorrow. I just wondered if any of you have tried it and if so had any benefit. It is quite expensive but it did work for my hubby when he was first sober, (another story for another forum). I am due to go on a nice trip next week to celebrate my 50th birthday it has been booked for so long but now I am afraid I won't be strong enough to enjoy or even get on the plane. So I am trying this in the hope that it will give me some relief even temporarily. I think I am at the stage like so many of you that I will try anything. Lots of love to you all xx

Hi Lizzy, I found it very beneficial. I had a course of eight sessions and it really helped my pain levels. I think it helped with the fatigue as well but it was quite a while ago and memory not so good. I am starting another course shortly through through the pain clinic. Also found temporary relief with hot stones massage at local training college, good luck with your trip and happy birthday

Hi, I can understand you wanting to feel better for your trip and a 50th Birthday must be celebrated in style!

I haven't tried acupuncture, (the cost has put me off!) but my mother used it for her Rheumatoid Arthritis and found it beneficial for several treatments but after about four times found it did not help her at all.

I would suggest you try it and see if it works!

Hi I'm in the same boat.

Had my first session today, it was relaxing. I don't feel any benefits yet, but my partner has persuaded me to give it a month.

Good luck at your appointment tomorrow and happy birthday :)

Hi EmSkieFish

Just out of interest, do you mind me asking if you are going to go every week?

I would be very interested to know if you get any relief from it.

Hi Lizzy-m

I haven't tried acupuncture for Fibromyalgia, but would be really interested to know how you get on with it.

I do know that many of our members do get quite a lot of relief with hydrotherapy but I would imagine that is more an ongoing treatment than a one off.

Is it pain that you think will stop you from enjoying your birthday or just the whole Fibro experience?!

I genuinely hope that you are able to enjoy your 50th birthday celebrations.

Please let us know how you get on.

Wishing you much peace

Lu x

It's everything to be honest, the fatigue is probably more debilitating than the pain but when I have both together, like today, it is horrendous as,unfortunately, I am sure you know

I also suffer from dizzy spells now which have only started this past week so I have not yet spoken to my doctor about these, well as the most annoying tinnitus , it just seems to be one thing after another. I have maybe 2 or 3 days when the meds help with pain and I can cope just about but out of the blue I am just floored. The tinnitus never seems to go away but my doctor didn't seem too concerned. I was at work yesterday and struggled to stay awake during a staff conference. I fell asleep on the sofa as soon as I got home and this morning a full blown flare up with pain everywhere has meant I was unable to go to work. I feel I am banging my head of a brick wall trying to find ways of stopping flare ups, people seem convinced I am doing something to bring these on. I really will try anything to stop me feeling like this. Sorry for the rant. Thank you for listening x

I have tried it on 2 different occasions. Sorry to say It did nothing for me. But I do think you really need a full course of regular treatment before you'll know if it will help you. Good luck and I hope you have a great holiday.

I tried it when the doctor said he thought I had fibro & referred me to the consultant. I don't know if it was the relief of some one taking me seriously, a week off not feeling bad for taking time off, reduced hrs, being given the OK to take more pain medication or just the massage that went with the acupuncture but I'd do it again when we can afford it. Though I was given a herbal mix too to take as the lady I went to worked in China in hospitals.

They also say if acupuncture works tens can too. I've just ordered a machine.

Good luck with finding something that works for you X
