My whole body morphs and stretches by itself waking me up and making me depressed and tired. Is anyone familiar with this feeling.

Hi mrscforkids

I sincerely hope that you are feeling as well as you possibly can be today? Welcome to the forum and it is wonderful to make your acquaintance. I have pasted you a link below to our mother site, FMA UK which hosts loads of useful Fibro information:

fmauk.org/

I am so genuinely sorry to read that you are experiencing this issue, and I have pasted you an excerpt below from the *reference.com website about one possible explanation for this:

*Why do we involuntarily stretch?

*A person stretches involuntarily because it increases blood flow to the muscles, reduces stiffness of joints and prevents injuries. Most people stretch after waking up because muscles and joints have been stiff for a long time. Blood tends to settle in some parts of the body while sleeping, and an involuntary stretch improves blood circulation. Many people also stretch involuntarily after sitting in a place for a long time to prevent stiffness and injury of muscles.

I want to sincerely wish you all the best of luck, and please take care of yourself my friend.

All my hopes and dreams for you

Ken

Welcome to the forum. I find I sort of fidget and stretch without really realising it my close friend commented the other day (in a kind way might I add). I think it is the bodies reaction to stiffness and pain and I think this is probably what wakes many people up at night but they don't always realise the cause.x

No I haven't. Have you had that checked out? xx

Hello @mrscforkids and a warm welcome to our friendly fibro forum where you can get support, advice, help and information.

If you look under Pinned Posts you will see guides to help you make the most out of the site, including instructions to lock your posts for your internet security.

We advise you lock your post otherwise it can be seen by everyone all over the internet, by locking your replies will be locked too which means you will generally get more responses.

If you are unsure how to lock just message any admin who will be happy to do this for you.

I do know if I stretch everything seems to ping or crack and I feel worse from the pain. Sometimes though stretching is automatic and can't be avoided. :(

The whole fibro thing makes many depressed and is sometimes difficult to treat.

I suggest you make an appointment with your GP as your medication may need tweaking.

X

sorry about that..... -_- ANYWAY...So I'm not sure if this is the same thing you are experiencing...I've had this a couple times where I am awakened because my legs are both restless and stretching back and forth involuntarily. Like every few seconds for what felt like hours at a time. It's both exhausting and a little scary. My doc gave me some muscle relaxers to take as soon as it starts. Just a side note, I was originally diagnosed w/ Fibro but then after a few MRI's and history logs, I've been diagnosed w/ MS and am now being treated for that. My neuro says this muscle stretching and contracting is fairly common among MS patients.....

Hi, if you mean like a cat stretches?? I do get that in the morning just as I'm waking mostly and it usually results in cramp in one or both legs. That's the best way I can describe it as I have cats.
