Hi, does anyone else suffer with recurrent UTI's and is this a symptom of fibro? I seem to have terrible bouts of urine infections that constantly come back. Is this part of fibro because it's doing my head in!!!!

Hope I'm not stating the obvious, but I assume you drink plenty of fluids. Dehydration is main cause of UTIs.

Hi there

Do you mind me asking if you need to pass urine a lot or at least feel the urge but don't actually pass much?

I've had more UTI's than hot dinners!

But since I've been taking a medication to stop my urge to pee every 5 minutes I've hardly had any.

Bladder problems in general do seem to be quite common with Fibro peeps.

I'm guessing you know all the right things to do? Lemon Barley is wonderful as well as Cranberry juice. You can buy Cranberry vitamins as well.

Obviously lots of water and no concentrated juices. The least caffine the better too.

Wishing you much peace

Hi Char_Green95 I have had bladder problems for many years and investigated if it was to do with Fibromyalgia and was told, Fibro effects all of your body, like Ibs, but like Fibro the cause is not known but they know its not infection because it doesn't clear up with antibiotics, I was also told that Urinary and pelvic complaints are common symptoms of fibromyalgia, particularly in women. It is called Interstitial Cystitis and you should Google for symptoms to give you more idea if this applies to you. it's like Fibro & not diagnosed very quickly and you need to be monitored by your doctor, they then rule out all other causes like in Fibro but it's normally diagnosed quicker in ppl.with chronic pain desease/Fibro

There is also medication once a diagnosis is made but a lot of meds are Fibro related but I think you have to look at diet, tea, coffee, pop etc.just the same as what helps if you have IBS.

Hope this helps

Peace, luv n light

Hi Char_Green95

I am so genuinely sorry to read this my friend and I have pasted you a link and an excerpt form the *NHS Choices cache on this issue:

.

*Preventing UTIs

*If you get UTIs frequently, there are some things you can try that may stop it coming back. However, it's not clear how effective most of these measures are.

These measures include:

avoiding perfumed bubble bath, soap or talcum powder around your genitals – use plain, unperfumed varieties, and have a shower rather than a bath

going to the toilet as soon as you need to pee and always emptying your bladder fully

staying well hydrated

wiping your bottom from front to back when you go to the toilet

emptying your bladder as soon as possible after having sex

not using a contraceptive diaphragm or condoms with spermicidal lubricant on them – you may wish to use another method of contraception instead

wearing underwear made from cotton, rather than synthetic material such as nylon, and avoiding tight jeans and trousers

Speak to your GP if these measures don't work. They may suggest taking a long-term course of antibiotics or they may give you a prescription for antibiotics you can use as soon as you experience symptoms of a UTI.

There's currently little evidence to suggest that drinking cranberry juice or using probiotics significantly reduces your chances of getting UTIs.

I am very susceptible to urinary tract infections. I used to be on daily antibiotics as a preventative, but after a couple years those really started to do a number on my whole body.

Now I am off antibiotics, and instead I take 2 of the Lady Soma Cranberry Concentrate every morning with my tea. These keep me feeling good and keep the UTIs away! Good stuff!!

Also, fyi .... on the very infrequent occasion where I feel like a UTI is coming on, I immediately use this product that knocks it out pronto.

Has the nurse/dr dipped your urine or sent it a sample off and confirmed a urinary tract infection? I had the same issues and it turned out to be Interstitial cystitis also known as painful bladder syndrome
