Hi, I'm Stephanie. I am 46 and just recently been diagnosed with fibromyalgia. The Doctor called me yesterday to tell my the my c reactive proteins are high and it was at a 21.9 and normal is 0.0-4.9. He is suspecting I have some kind of arthritis. He wants to start me on steroids. Do any of you with fibromyalgia take steroids?

fibro and arthritis?
Hi there
Welcome to the forum
I am sorry to hear that you have been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia. Have a look at our webiste for lots of information about Fibro fmauk.org
I have had Fibromyalgia & ME for 36 years and have never been offered steroids for my Fibro.
It is certainly not a medication that is prescribed as a matter of course for Fibromyalgia.
However, I am not a medical professional and am only speaking from my own experiences and those of being a member of the forum for coming up 5 years.
I hope you will enjoy being a part of our forum. Our members are wonderful, supportive and caring.
I hope that someone can come along who is able to answer your question.
Wishing you much peace

Hi Linzy....I was given steroid injections a couple of years back but unfortunately they did very little to help my arthritis....it wasn't for fibro! but it doesn't mean that they won't benefit you as we all react differently to meds...best of luck and let us know how you get on....x
Hiya welcome. I'm so sorry to hear that you have fibro. I have never had steroid injections but you may find someone that has. Look forward to chatting with you. Take care x
hi Stephanie pleased to meet you. I have fibro and osteo arthritis and have never been prescribed steroids but I know that they are often prescribed for other forms of arthritis. Has he told you what form you have as there are quite a few? I did have a steroid injection in my hip once and it was like a miracle for 6 months but they would only do it the one time unfortunately. Sometimes us know how you do on them if you decide to take them.x
Hi Stephanie
Your CRP is high because you have inflammation somewhere in your body, as well as fibro. If this continues to be the case then ask for a referral to a rheumatologist who will carry out other tests. I have several autoimmune conditions which can cause inflammation so I am on steroids permanently.
Steroids are not routinely given for fibro, only if there is a suspicion something else is going on.
If in any doubt ask your GP why he has prescribed these for you.
Welcome Linzyandsamsmom46 congrats on finding us, I hope you get the answers your looking for and you enjoy the site.
Take care 🤗🤗 xx
Hi
Does he think you may have Polymyalgia Rheumatic not Fibro
Steroids are normally given to treat PMR as its the only treatment like fibro is eliminating other illnesses and if you respond to Steroids then they diagnose PMR
Hi Linzyandsamsmom46 and welcome to our wonderful forum ☺I'm sure you will come to find the forum invaluable in chatting to others who are going through the same experience as you & talking to others at different stages of their lives with Fibro & learning from their experiences.
It does help with the whole process & i wish I had found the site years ago. I have had Fibro for nearly 30 yrs & I'm still learning about it, like we all are.
I have Polymyagia and Fibromyalgia and i have taken steroids when I have had a flare but I don't take them all the time but as BlueMermaid3 has said, Its not usual to be prescribed steroids for Fibromyalgia so I'm thinking your arthritis must be flaring because they are to help with inflammation as high protein levels usually point to inflammation.
Hope this helps
Peace, luv n light

Hi Linzyandsamsmom46
Welcome to the forum and it is wonderful to make your acquaintance. I take 10mg steroids every day (Prednsiolone) but for other medical conditions as I have chronic asthma and COPD. I am currently on 40mg a day for the next week due to an exacerbation of my COPD and asthma.
There can be many serious side effects with steroids such a brittle bone disease so I would talk through with your doctor what your risks could be? I want to sincerely wish you all the best of luck, and please take care of yourself.
All my hopes and dreams for you
Ken
