Hi Macberts

My only experience of Gabapentin was not good to be honest although many here find it great for relief of pain. What suits one person may not suit another and it is a bit of trial and error.

With Gabapentin and later Pregabelin I was completely nuts! And that was only when I was awake which wasn't often! I was very forgetful, could not hold a conversation, could not concentrate, talked rubbish and was generally extremely odd. I also gained half a stone in weight in six weeks, which unfortunately I have never lost. But hey, the sleeping was good and so was the pain relief! No nightmares though.

I guess it is horses for courses as the saying goes.

Hi Macberts

I have never taken Gabapentin as I am on Pregabalin. I would definitely talk to your doctor about this my friend and see what they can do about it/ They may want to change your medication?

I want to sincerely wish you all the best of luck, and please take care of yourself.

All my hopes and dreams for you

Ken

Hi fibroglow I have found that it does help with my nerve pain. As I had my dosage lowered and I felt the difference, especially with headaches and facial pain x :)

Dr said it's ok to take both. But I don't want to be out of it. Been on Butrans Patches for 8 years. Increased now to 20mcg patch.

Yes, I know what you mean! The medications can make you exhausted or simply sleep? I would sooner have my Pregabalin to others such as Amitriptyline as this contains a sedative. I have never tried the patches myself.

Hello machetes.

I'm assuming sleep walking is a new thing for you.

I used to be on Pregabalin and I felt drugged up and had nasty nasty thoughts. So my Dr took me off them and immediately replaced with Gabapentin. Because these two drugs are related (like cousins) my Dr told me to build up very slowly. Every few days I'd go up by 100mg until I'm up to 900 mg which is still a low dose for this drug. It tries to stop the brains neurons firing off.

If it is this drug causing you nightmares and sleepwalking it's activating or releasing a part of your brain.

I'm with everyone who recommends talking to your GP. Asap.

Sometimes there's enough relief from drugs to put up with niggling side effects and sometimes there's not and we have to search some more.

Best wishes

Does anyone find that gabapentin makes them feel drunk, more tired and brain fog worse?
