Just started this drug yesterday I have felt shaky and for want of a better word stoned all day. Has anybody else had a reaction like this and did they continue to take them? Many thanks,Alan

Hi Alan, i had exactly the same problem, i continued with it for a over a month hoping it would settle down. Unfortunately for me it did not improve and i was transferred to amitriptyline. The gabapentin was much better for fibro pain than amitriptyline, so it is worth persevering with it if you can, good luck shazzzy

ThanksShazzzy, tried amitriptyline but put me in a bad place, going to ask dr if dosage is right as 300mg tablets to start with seems quite a big dosage to me,Alan

Hi, I had same symptoms for first couple days on gabapentin, then it settled down. But always worth checking any side effects with GP or pharmacist xxx

Hope you find the right thing for you soon.

Hi Alan55

I am so sorry to read that you are experiencing such issues with your Gabapentin, and I genuinely hope that the side effects war off soon. I have never taken this medication, but if your side effects persist of get worse it may be best to discuss the issue with your GP to see what they can do about it?

Take care

Ken

I have gabapentin and used it now for over 10 years, yes there are days when you are zombie out but I find the time of day you take the drug can determine also how you are feeling. I now take mine nightly before bed and just as I get up in the morning with breakfast. I was at one stage on 300mg x 4 daily but dropped these by GP to 300mg twice daily and the option of a 100mg in between depending on pain and whether my neck or back is in spasm. I would suggest like myself to ask the GP for the 100mg pills as these can be better spaced throughout the day than the 300mg tablet.

Thank you Inkemup,to be honest I think the chemist has messed up giving me 300mg tablets ,going to find out of dr this morning. Alan

I think it is worth persevering with the gabapentin. It has been the only med so far that has made my pain more bareable ,I did have the same experiance. As you are having but over time these lessen.

Talk it over with your GP. I started with 1x300mg 3 times a day, im now taking 3x300mg 3 times a day. These are gradual increases though.

I hope you find a solution soon

Ali

Hi Alan

I take them too and have the same reaction , I called my doctor, I was told to increase to 2x200mg three times a day but I just could not function so the doc said for me to cut them back to 1x100mg twice a day and take 2x100mg at night which is going ok not so spaced out but not a great help so far for the pain, I'm taking cocodeamol as we'll call ur doc if ur feeling no better it's not a nice feeling and I personally didn't feel in control of my movements and was afraid I'd fall which I do. At times. Hope this helps .

Hello to all, I have read your posts and felt worried for all who said they had bad side effects, and then some could not continue. I had not heard of this medication, so I looked it up on EMC and found the drug, and read some of it, Epilsey, peripheral neurpathy pain, a hard working medication, I hope the site helps with your research, and i hope that the medication starts to settle down for all who take it, ttfn

Hi Alan I too went a bit light headed now on [ 3] 3 times a day same every time they increase the dosage only lasted a couple of days, so give them a fair crack of the whip. They help me and any help with this is welcome....
