Lack of strength ???

I have been noticing a lot in the last few weeks that my wrists are so weak, last night I was cooking and I went to lift the pan and the power and strength just went from my wrists resulting in food all over the floor!! So frustrating does anyone else experience this ??

I have the same problem. I have burnt myself several times by dropping saucepans and roasting tins.

You have my sympathy I am like that and it sometimes happen without warning. I am very right handed and that is the hand where the grip is worse the times stuff has landed on the floor is too many to recall. I realised at the PIP assessment that when I had to grip the assessors fingers that the grip in my left hand was about 5 times weaker than the right. Do you have arthritis or do you think it is to do with your fibro?x

Hi....I also have these problems but mine is osteo arthritis and my OH has to do all the heavy stuff in the kitchen as I have had some accidents with hot stuff in the past. Have you ever tried wrist braces that you can buy in pharmacies they do help but you cannot wear them all the time or the muscles weaken....take care and don't lift hot stuff!!! x

I have just thrown my plastic mug with my sweetener and milk in it onto the kitchen floor. I was about to put it under the coffee machine. :P

No wonder that we have never got any drinking glasses. :(

I have been working on the problem of cooking with weak hands over the last couple of weeks. Starting with light weight 2 handled aluminium sauce pans. The small worktop next to the cooker has been cleared of the knife block and halogen oven to give me more room to work and to dish up.

When the kitchen was modernised i put all of my electrical kitchen gadgets on top of the cupboards. I can no longer lift them up or down so a good sort out of the cupboard has made room for them and some of the larger lightweight stuff has gone on top of the cupboards.

Later on today i am going to get the little one cup coffee maker out so that the big Kenwood can go. stupid keeping when there is only me that drinks it.

It will also make room for my 3 foot long teppanyaki (electric hot plate) It saves keep swapping pans around on the gas rings.

Boiling water and veg ect i put the washing up bowl with the cullender in it next to the pan and then scoop the contents of the pan into it so as not to carry boiling water around.

To get hot pans out of the oven i yell for help. :P

Well there is only so much that can be done, Mind you i could do with a new oven and hob maybe i will have the oven up higher so that there is no bending.

I suffer with this! I only said to a colleague yesterday how much weaker my wrists and hands are (I can carry a tray with empty cups on say 4 cups but haven't been able to carry it back when full for months) I have a doctors apt on the 18th Oct so was going to mention it then as its very worrying, and I'd be interested to know what sort of exercises we should be doing so not to damage our wrists further but at the same time getting weaker isn't a desired option (I'm only 23 so by the time I'm 25 if it continues I won't be able to use my hands) so fingers crossed they say something useful (rare occurrence!!) I shall let you know once I have been and if they say anything but unfortunately I have a new doctor this time as all the good ones seem to leave (where do they go!? Underground?!) so I'm not hopefully but you never know! The only thing I have been doing to try and strengthen is to fill an empty pint glass up and try and hold it as it fills but that does hurt! xxx
