They are not something that I have tried but I want to genuinely wish you all the best of luck with these if you are giving them a go.

All my hopes and dreams for you

matrifen patches, yes I certainly notice a difference if I run out! they don't take all the pain away, but they do help me. Tulip xx :)

Hi Shabs1

I have been on fentynal patches for about 2 years now and for me they have been working very well. The only reason I know this, is because I forgot to put a new patch on after having a bath one day, and could not work out why I was in such agony ! It took me 2 days to work out what I had done ! Once the patch was back on the pain subsided quite quickly.

I hope if you do go down this road, they work for you too.

I have been wearing a Butrans patch for just over two months and it's made a real difference for me.

I have tried both Butrans and Fentanyl with Oramorph for breakthrough pain. Butrans patches were for seven days and used to "run out" after five or less days, the Fentanyl were for three days and "ran out" after two. I think that the days were that way round but you get the idea. It was some while before I realised the reason for this, I was too hot and sweaty ,this speeded up the delivery of the drug. So I found myself in severe pain whilst I thought I was covered. Also they used to fall off for the same reason. I moved onto 40mg morphine sustained release capsules morning and evening with instant action Sevredol (mophine) tablets for breakthrough pain. I seem to be in the minority, most people I have heard that are on Butrans (and Fentalyn) have great success with them, I wish you good luck.

I have fentynl which work well for me. The butrans, weren't strong enough, the Dr took me from a much higher dose most and dropped me down and I couldn't even get out of bed, though mine are for a damaged back. I did also react to the glue in the butrans, they are like a plaster. If you enjoy hydrotherapy, saunas etc that make you sweat, one a regular basis then you could have issues with them running out too quickly as wheezybronch has said. For normal bathing it can help to put some extra sleek- a VERY sticky plastic over the top.

The other thing I would advise is if people check an option conversion table. This includes cocodamol - the codeine element, tramadol as they come under this as well to ensure you are getting the appropriate change over amount. You should go on a lower dose to start with, though not back to the very bottom, and then build up to the amount that you need.

i have been using fentanyl patches for years. i use two since they seem to run out of "juice" quickly. use lower dosage though. it helps but still have breakthrough pain that i need to take med. for. like so many others i have lots of other issues in addition to fibro so the pain can be awful. i have been having a lot of problems with night sweats so wonder if the higher level of pain is related. thanks for the comments re:sweating. will talk to my pain management dr. next time i see him to see how can handle the "sweats". anyone have any suggestions?

With all the hoopla about addiction in the States, many of our MD's will not RX this., or anything with a narcotic pain reliever. You are lucky to have it. I hope it helps you. Please know however, it is super addictive.
