Fibro,
Welcome Mary,
Sorry to hear that you have fibro. You have joined a brilliant forum where the members are knowledgeable and fun to know. As fibro affects us all differently, so medication is also tolerated in various ways. Your gp or consultant should advise you on meds as there are so many combinations to try. Some sufferers cope reasonably well whilst others are less mobile. The 'fibroaction' website has lots of info on it. We are here to support each other and offer a friendly ear. Nice to meet you.x
Thank you for your reply. I will check the website because I want to learn more about it. I do know some not much.
Thanks,
Mary
I am so genuinely sorry to read that you have Fibro, and I have pasted you a link to the FibroAction website below:
There are many medications available that you could discuss with your GP / Medical Specialist such as Gabapentin or Amitriptyline. They are a type of drug known as Neural Inhibitors. Then you could try discussing out and out pain killers such as Naproxen or Cocodamol. It is always advisable to discuss medicines with your GP / Medical Specialist as they will have access to your medical records and should know what you can and cannot take.
There are non-drug related treatments such as Counselling or physiotherapy, or possibly a TENS Machine for the pain?
I want to genuinely and sincerely wish you all the best of luck.
All my hopes and dreams for you
Ken
Hi Mary, welcome to the forum. You have come to the right place. I have found lots of support, advice, laughs, and sharing here. There are so many members who can relate to the various aspects of fibro and relate their experiences. Fibro affects us individually but there are lots of commonalities.
I can't really say more than has already been said, but if you stick around and search the site, you'll find lots of experiences like yours and see what people do to make life easier.
I know gabapentin is a similar drug to pregablin, but would you know if you are also allergic to it? It has helped me to some degree.
I am currently taking Gabapentin. I also use a tens unit. They help. The most important thing is stretching and keeping mobile. I stretch before I get out of bed and before I walk.
I wish you well.
I am doing PT for my back and going to pain management. I just got started going to the both places. My doctor is checking and see what kind of pain pills and muscle relaxer. The one I was on did not do any good. I pray to God to help out on the pain and for healing. Seems like I am the only one have the problems that I have. I have scoliosis two bulging discs with the fiberomyaliga and with abdominal pain. I am going have all this checked and getting myself health better.
You're not the only one. You are not alone.
Having said that, the Pain Management Clinic pharmacist would be the one to discuss your medications with. They will advise you on what type of meds are available for you, and will be able to tell you which ones to steer clear of given your allergies/contraindications.
I just had my appt with the PMC pharmacist on Monday, and have since started taking Tramadol, which so far seems to be making a huge difference for me, and I'm feeling very positive about going further with the PMC. I hope you find some help there too.
everyone has given you great info, so I'd just like to say hello and wish you well. you have certainly found a good site for help and also a laugh. x
Sorry to hear you have fibro, you'll find lots of helpful info on here and everyone is friendly.
Maybe gabapentin may suit you, it's similar to pregabalin. I hope your GP manages to find a medication that helps you. X
Hi,welcome aboard! Fibro is so different for all of us it can take quite a while to work out what Meds suit you best. You've probably already understood that there is no cure and so we treat the different symptoms. I am on co codrymydol, Tramadol, MST for daily pain and Oramorph for breakthrough pain on the really bad days. I take Diazipam for Resless Leg Syndrome which relaxes the muscles so fewer shooting pains, it also helps with the two bulging discs in my neck. I am waiting two months for an appointment with pain clinic. I had to convince my GP it was not just another FIBRO thing and fortunately found an old letter with an MRI result on it.
Seems to be competition between GPS and hospital over who does what (follow the money)! My GP will now do the pain injections but don't want to be the one who recommends it!
Anyway I go on! This is an exceptionally friendly knowledgeable sight with mainly Brits so the name of drugs and treatments is more applicable.
Gentle hugs Patrick x
Some very good replies as ever. You'll need to experiment with your GP to find the right medication.
It's not guaranteed you'll end up wheelchair bound, but looking on the site there are many who use one. Mdaisy might have somke stats on that.
GENTLE exercise will almost certainly help, and given the scoliosis remember you're not training for a marathon. Ask for a referral to physiotherapist.
Several of us do yoga, tai chi, progressive muscle relaxation, mindfulness. . .
you're moving, but gently.
Good luck in your quest. I'm on one too.
