Hi I asked my doctor if I had fibro and his answer was do you want another diagnosis adding to your medical record. And all my pain is because I'm getting old. But I won't accept that. I have lymphondema in both legs osteoarthritis in both knees in top of neck and dics degenerative disease in spine thyroid underactive diabetes type 2, the pain I get is everything fibro have and he made me feel small

He probably shouldn't have dismissed you like that BUT he does have a point, once you have a fibro diagnosis it then becomes the reason for everything that goes wrong. If I have a new symptom/symptoms then most GPS or consultants like to pin everything on fibro and I have to fight to be listened too when I know there's more to it than fibro. Why do you think your pain is from fibro? Osteoarthritis and disc disease causes pain by itself, do you have other symptoms?

I experience the same thing with Drs, a classic line they like to use is “but having that diagnosis isn’t going to change things, there’s nothing we can do so….?”

I’m a strong believer in a diagnosis, it can be calming and healing to know that you have a explanation for what you’re feeling and you’re not nuts 😆😂!

Drs seem to be very dismissive of this condition and as you said it does make you feel small.

Just keep going with it, write down all your symptoms and ask for rheumatology to review to see what they think.

I hope you’re ok and feel less small knowing you’re not alone in this 😘🙌😊

Sending gentle hugs your way

Unfortunately doctor ls can be ignorant sometimes when they just don't know how to treat comorbid and complex patients. Are you seeing a specialist for your conditions maybe they would be better to ask and investigate further?

Same as Winnie123 said, after 20 years of chronic pain, fatigue and many other issues when I was finally diagnosed I truly felt that finally all the dots had been connected and I have to say it was a great relief knowing why I had felt so ill and I wasn’t crazy. Of course that doesn’t mean that anyone’wants’ fibromyalgia x

I came up on a problem with a fibro diagnosis recently. I had an accident at work. Basically I build buses and coaches. Job is an absolute killer for someone with fibro and I usually feel like I've been run over by the time I get home. We are mental busy at the moment but I love the job. Anyway I was working on a huge luxury coach that was almost as big as a double decker bus and someone didn't put a cover over one of access hatches and I fell down it pretty badly. It was still exposed metalwork and I had a really bad landing. Badly damaged forearm and torn rotator cuff in my shoulder. Lots of lacerations. All the fun stuff. Took 6 weeks off work to get back in any sort of shape and a very hard recovery when I got started working again. The job is very physical but I've found the less I do the worse my fibro is. Or more to the point the harder it is to get going fully again. I'm. Constantly busy with something either at work or at home. Anyway I put in an injuries claim against the company I work for. They admitted liability straight away. Not a problem but I had to see a specialist as part of the process. Explained the situation, the injuries and recovery and he was fine. As soon as I mentioned I had fibro his attitude changed. Had no choice I was asked what medication I take and for what. I still have a lot of pain from the injuries across my shoulder and neck specifically from the accident but he just ignored everything I said and put in his report saying minor injuries and everything was down to having fibromyalgia. I was and still am livid. Accident was over a year ago and I still struggle from it. When I read his report I was absolutely stunned by how blind and idiotic he was. Rant over. 😁

Hi Mark over the years I worked at a cake factory and if they didn't have a man to do the icing hopper they alway made me do it so it was shoveling icing that was put in a massive grate and I was shovelling it in the hopper some times 6 hours a day if not that it was taking 3g of fruit cakes the lifting 3 triple choc cake if it was under 34 kg we had to put more on and lift it up we used to do some sometimes 2/3000 aday. I had tore my rotato cuff and had problems with elbow same side and then I had same with left shoulder but never gain full rotations only have 60% I had lots of things going wrong neck spine the tingling burning not sleeping only a hr a night has been going on for 15 years. Headaches had operation on right ankle as I had a new operation for planta where they took my tem cells out and put it through a machine and put them back in . Takes up to 2 years to work but apparently the op didn't work so had constant pain. In a morning I feel as if I've been hit by a tank every thing hurts hands feet arms. I'm just sick of it and now I was so low he just looks at me as if I'm a nobody

I'm really sorry hear about your troubles. It sounds awful.Ur Dr is an ass.

I've been diagnosed with fibromyalgia since 2003.

I've seen many gps over the years with varying degrees of success and failure. So I disengaged. Got the basic meds until 2 yrs ago. I saw 2 physiotherapist s. Both have different diagnosis. Then I was rediagnosed with chronic fibromyalgia? What the sugar lumps. Now suddenly I am getting attention.

U need to go private once. It's about 60 pounds but worth it. I got an assessment which was sent to gp.

They listen or at least mine did. She thought I needed a hip replacement. Turns out it's the fibromyalgia although doesn't help me walk without aid.

Yet!

I'm on a gentle exercise regime. But that's not ur problem. I don't know what to suggest other than second opinion and taking no poop.

I admire u but not ur situation. Ur obviously a strong person like all who suffer fibromyalgia.

I hope that things improve for you.

Hugs sweetie. Good luck

Thanks. Didn't mean to hijack the thread. Medical professionals are very hit and miss but I do okay but I am definitely feeling a slow and steady decline. I actually feel jealous when I see people that can move quickly and not stagger around for the first few steps after sitting still for 10 minutes.
