I hope that you are all well today and ready for the weekend,
I have just had the most amazing appointment at the hospital . I saw a Dr Sawyer who is dealing with my Fibromaglia, this was the first time I have met him and he was so helpful and put my mind at ease. He is the first person I felt really believed me.
Over the last 9 months I have devolved a dragging right leg and now can lift it, and now the last 3 weeks have lost the use of my right arm, they thought I had a stroke but now they have ruled that out but I still have no use of that arm. The Dr today told me it is a progression of the fibro and it will take along time to get better. He wants me to have GET gentle exercise therpy? Has anyone else tried this treatment. Also felt that CBT would help what does that mean?
I am using a wheel chair now and gaining weight so fast which. I have been told is contributed by the amount of gapapentine I am using which is 900mg 3x a day. He also advised me that using ori morphine can be highly addictive and said use only at the very bad times or I won't know how to deal with the pain.
How is every one else today.
Thought would end this emai, with a picture of my puppy toffee demanding playtime xxxx

So pleased that you have found a "nice" helpful doctor. CBT is cognitive behaviour therapy, which is basically a "talking therapy" where you can discuss things which are stressing you and work out the best way for you to deal with them. Sometimes it helps to get all your worries out in the open and speaking about them with a "neutral" person who does not judge you can make things clearer. I believe it helps some people who tend to "bottle" everything up inside.... I had a kind of talking therapy and it helped me.
The gentle exercise sounds good... I tried hydrotherapy and I also do gentle yoga. Hope it goes well for you. xxx ps Toffee is so cute
That sounds like a wonderful and fruitful appointment my friend! I am so delighted to read that it went so well for you. I want to genuinely and sincerely wish you all the best of luck.
I do gentle exercise therapy which is what is says, very, very gentle exercises. It depends on where your pain is as to what they will get you doing? I do gentle knee, hip and ankle exercises.
As Phlebo says, CBT is counselling but in a loose sense of the word. As it is goal focused therpay whereby you set out to achieve something.
CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy) can be a useful tool to help you get your mind n the right place with regard to managing your condition. Just be careful not to let anyone fool you into thinking it will cure you. If they try telling you that then basically what they are saying is your illness is "all in your head". That sort of approach to CBT can do more harm than good.
