Weight Gain
Yes I have and I am right there with you. I too have had a problem trying to lose the weight. I wish I had a answer for you but I don't. Just letting you know that you are not alone.
Hi Purple-haze
So many people here have complained about the weight gain side effect of being on gabapentin. The tricky thing is with our condition it is hard to move quickly enough to fire up ones' metabolism even if we did it in conjunction with eating less. Perhaps though you could have a little look at your diet and try to cut out the sugar content in things, (research has shown that in fact fat, as long as it is a good fat (such a olive oil, fish oils etc )not hydrogenated fat are not the prime culprit in weight gain, it is the sugars and especially the hidden sugars within our food)
However having said all that I would seriously talk to your GP about this and let him/her know how you feel and they may be able to give you advise or even change medication if they feel that would be suitable.
I know only too well how disheartening the weight gain can be and send you lots of positive vibes to help you through 😊😊
Foggy x
Hi, yes I've put on 3/4 stone and it's the lesser of two evils, tablets controllable and bearable pain or no tablets and lighter in weight, I chose the tablets because I have tried so many tablets, patches and medicines and combined with other meds nearly work for me. Best wishes Sue.
Hi yes I'm also stressing a lot about this! Gained 3 stone nearly. Does not help my mood at all and if anyone else hints at me being pregnant I will not be held responsible for my actions hahahahaha.
Has your eating habbits changed? I do binge eat at night time so I can't only blame the meds x
I am so genuinely sorry to read of your weight gain, and I have also increased weight due to my medications. I had a conversation with my GP about this 2 months ago. I want to genuinely wish you all the best of luck.
All my hopes and dreams for you
Ken
Yes I have put on weight too, tried so hard to lose with diet but as I cannot move about too quickly guess that doesn't help. I am not even sure the Gabapentin is helping now as in a lot of pain, not sure which way to go, it's horrible getting bigger and surely does not help all my joints
Take care and good luck with losing weight
Yeah I'm the same because I have to take 4 tablets 3 times a day and they are not working with the pain anymore but I like you and everyone else on the site we can't just take ourselves off them, it's not just the gabapentin I'm on though cos I am on Ditropan,Calcium, Premarin,Amitrityline, Mirtazapine, I would so like to come of the whole lot of my medication. It's so not fair because now I have been put on yet another tablet called Naproxen. Please if you have any answers 😕
I was on pregabalin (same type medication) gained over 4 stone ...kept moaning at doc about it he eventually changed me to duloxetine. .They have stopped the weight gain and i do manage pain most days but some days can't get head off pillow and sleep most of day to help deal with the pain
Yes I have the same problem with pregabalin you just have to eat the right food and cut you food down xx
