Hi, yes I have times when I know I'm going to pile weight on altho' nothing has changed in my diet or routine, but I feel I guess more unwell than usual. My currant Drs are as useless as a chocolate Tea pot I'm overweight because I over eat. Well as my carers could tell them if they would listen, after my rent is paid I have very little left for food and bills over eating is not possible. Then I will start to feel different again it's like some kind of blockage has gone and everything is running normally and hey the weight starts to come off. The problem is that not all the weight is gone before the next bout so over the years I have gone from 12 stone to 21 stone. My Dr says weight has always been a problem as 12 stone is too heavy when you're 5'6" she hasn't read hospital reports about my weight and the fact the job I had meant I carried more muscle and muscle is heavier than fat. Anyway my Drs not believing a word I or the hospital say have sent me to be diagnosed again for my list of illnesses. Soul destroying for me apart from seeing a new Dr in the pain clinic who was talking about Fybromyalgia and thyroid problems. He said the usual thyroid tests would be normal but in fybro patients it was proved to be not fully functioning. Some ladies were on thyroxin and were losing weight. I was so excited only for that excitement to turn to tears as my GP wasn't having any of it. I talked with the pain clinic Dr, he wrote to my GP but still nothing. Then I started to do my own research and in fybro patients there is a lack of Iodine and selenium, without these the thyroid can't function fully. I talked this over with the pain clinic and I said I would rather try iodine first than risk thyroxin with its side effects. One month into taking these tablets having made no other changes my weight has started to come down. I stopped stressing over my weight a long time ago so I have no scales in the house but the nurse commented at my diabetic review that I was doing well losing weight, and friends today I haven't seen for a while said wow you have lost weight. I would talk to your GP and hopefully yours is better than mine. But above all don't stress over your weight, we have enough to cope with in our daily lives. I feel the more we stress over it the harder it becomes to lose it. We're not all meant to be skinny, we are who we are whatever shape and we should be happy with who we are. Once I stopped stressing over my weight I was able to deal with the fybro in a better way and I lost some of the anger I was carrying around with me. Sorry I do kinda waffle on but its the only way for me to get it all out there lol if I try to condense it I lose track and then forget what I'm writing about.

I hope this helps

Hugs Waya

When I read your answer Eirwen I did have a chuckle to myself, because when I seen a orthopaedic Dr I showed him my arms because they swell so much that I get a really tight band around my arms & they become very painful, he laughed at me & said "it's because your arms are fat" my husband nearly knocked him off his chair, so I hope you get a more sympathetic Dr than I did.

Waya don't worry about waffling, that is very interesting as I hadn't heard about fibro and thyroid issues before. A friend of mine has had to battle for years to be diagnosed as the thyroid tests all came back just off the levels they require to treat you, when she finally got on to thyroxine she still didn't lose much weight. Will tell her about the iodine, do you get it on prescription?

Well done Gins that is brilliant amount to lose in a month, have you changed your diet or just started using the complex. When I was going through my divorce a locum GP put me on Fluoxetine and I put on 4 stone, now on Duloxetine but the weight hasn't come off. Like you I can't exercise and my diet isn't great as it depends on what's cheap as opposed to what's healthy )-;

was drinking a litre of rum a week too plus wine which had to stop to go on to Fluoxetine so thought I'd lose some weight not put it on )-:
