Hi I’m on Pregablin too. I found that the night time dose didn't increase my appetite but when I started taking it in the morning I was constantly hungry. As Ajay said, it does effect everyone differently.

Hi there , It doesn’t make me want to eat more etc but I am worried as some meds make you gain weight ,Thanks 👍

I have been on Pregablin for about 10 years now and am actually lighter than when I started on it. I do have a sweet tooth that I never had before so am quite strict with myself. I have treats but do watch what I eat. I had stopped all exercise as the pain as so extreme but Pregablin brought the pain down to a level where I could start doing gentle exercise again which I think has helped keep the weight off. It is the one medication which I think has helped me the most but it doesn't suit everyone so has to be a personal choice.

Hello Rosewine yes I be been on Pregabilin for about 18 years now and feel that they have definitely helped with the severe oft of the pain I get unless I’m having a flu and fibromyalgia flare up which is now on its way out now! Take care xxx❤️

I have been on it since 2015. I didn't notice a difference in the beginning, but with the several lock downs and restricts to get get to the gym, etc. I have gained a ton of weight. I am hoping with proper exercise and diet I can get it back off. My anxiety meds don't help either.

looloo4007 in reply to FibroJo79

Yea I am the same my weight has went up a lot ! Also on anxiety meds too , I think they are good for my pain tho as I missed them out just one day (yesterday) and I can feel worse for it today !

My appetite increased hugely while on Pregablin, in an extremely obvious way whereas with Gabapentin it was more incremental but I put on weight with both.

looloo4007 in reply to Cat00

Oh really ! It’s frustrating it really is !!

Cat00 profile image
Cat00 in reply to looloo4007

Yes I was anorexic at the time so everyone around me was very pleased. I did, however, start being a little over weight in the end which I despaired at. I had to come off them to conceive and be pregnant for both my children etc so I wouldn't go back on them afterwards bc its hard enough loosing baby weight!

Oh I see ,I hope your doing okay now though and thanks for replying 🙏

Hi I've been on tramadol for 5 yrs for chronic back pain. I was diagnosed with fibro in April 2018 n doc put me on 600 pregablin. I put over 2 stone on in 3 month. I came off it slowly n lost my weight. Doc put me on Duloxetine n it's great for my fibro, it really does help me

looloo4007 profile image
looloo4007 in reply to Coogy52

Is that 600mg I am only on 75mg twice a day to start of with , do you think it was the Pregablin then ? Not sure if I’ve heard of duloxetine

Coogy52 profile image
Coogy52 in reply to looloo4007

Yes it was definitely pregablin...have a look at duloxatine, I take 120mg a day. 2 60mg tablets. It's really good for me n no weight gain

looloo4007 profile image
looloo4007 in reply to Coogy52

Ok thanks I will do that for sure 🙂

Candy2595 profile image

I wish duloxetine worked for me, I tried to increase it but I couldn’t. Moved over to pregabalin, worked wonders for 3 months but back to masses of pain. Although I’m on a tonne of other pain meds for various conditions, the life of trying to get a decent balance aye?!?

looloo4007 in reply to Candy2595

Have you asked to have the dose put up now that it no longer works for you , yea I know what you mean 🙄

Lupusrelative profile image
Lupusrelative in reply to looloo4007

When they increase your pregabalin dose you may find you have more side effects. Happened to me; lightheaded, sleepy and problems with eye focus. Doctor lowered dose again and although I do have breakthrough pain, I prefer this to ‘feeling out of it’. Did put on a few pounds but stopped eating so much chocolate and bread and weight is nearly back to normal. Also a walk a day , no matter how slow, will really help for pain

I already have had light headedness and being sleepy , it’s getting better tho thanks for reply 🙏

Hi there, it’s hard sometimes when medication does it’s job but the side effect can be weight gain, and as we we hit a certain age our metabolism slows up, on my medication I did gain weight but other factors can contribute, age, not always being so active say on a flare days m but for me my med does it’s job and I keep as active as I can, like Ajay says what we eat dietary wise can help xx

looloo4007 profile image
looloo4007 in reply to Yassytina

Yea and I am certainly at that certain age 👀, it’s also hard when you want to exercise but can’t due to pain as diet alone doesn’t help ! Thanks 🙏

Depends on your diet as with all meds. I am on Pregabilin and with a healthy diet I have no problems with weight gain.

Hello, I've been on Pregablin for about 25 years 300mg twice daily plus Tramadol. I've gained nearly 3stone, but that could be due to almost no activity, age and a sweet tooth. I'm going to take one of your replies on board and just take one 300mg at night instead of twice daily. For me Pregablin helps with my pain and anxiety. Good luck as you're on a much lower dosage anyway. X

Hello , It must be a good one to be on it this long I guess , and yea I get you I’ve gained a lot too it’s a horrid frustrating illness ! Am glad you got a little from my replies 😊 , let me know how you get on taking the one 300 mg ! Linda 🙏

I’ve put on a few stones but it’s really difficult to pin point to just the medication. I’ve certainly been less active due to pain and fatigue. You may do fine on it so try and not worry too much. Good luck x

I know right ! I wish I could just not care about my weight but it really gets me down , thank you 🙏 x

I have been on pregabalin for several years now. I started with 75mg and unfortunately I couldn't tolerate it. I am very sensitive to certain foods and drugs. My consultant put me on 25mg twice a day, together with 150mg of Setraline. I have put on a bit of weight but put that down to my love of biscuits.I think finding the right dose is the hardest part. I am on a very low dose which works for me and there is no way I could take the high dose that many of you are on. I hope you manage to control your weight and stay safe and happily Good luck 🌹💗

I have been on 150mg per day of pregabalin since August this year and it has made such a difference to the nerve pain i had. I still have pain in my right hip and knee and sometimes in my lower back if i have been busy or standing for too long and for that i take Codi Par 15mg/500mg up to 4 times daily. This pain is due to arthritis in my joints and 3 herniated discs in my spine. I actually find i can cut down on the Codi Par on quieter days when i am just gonna be at home pottering as i can sit and rest when in pain. As for weight gain, so far i have been lucky and not gained weight. which i was was concerned about as i know it doesnt help with joint pain to be overweight. I try to keep as active as poss like most people on here but sometimes the pain and fatigue from meds wipes out the incentive to do exercises. This does concern me as prior to having these issues i was a runner and ran three times weekly or in bad weather i did aerobics instead. I mourn the loss of these activities and the sense of well being they gave me and fear for the future as i get older like all of us i guess. All we can do is try our hardest to keep active and cheerful on our good days and allow ourselves to be kind and gentle to ourselves on the harder days.

😊😊

Yea that’s the same dose as myself it’s definitely helping with the pain , except first thing in the morning I wish I didn’t wake up so sore but can’t have it all , I have hip and knee pain too they said my xrays showed Osteo arthritis (great eh) and trying to motivate yourself to just go for a short walk even on low days is a strain on me , Hope your having an ok day 🥰.

Oh my we are mirror images!!! lol. Mornings are very hard i know, sometimes only just make it to the bathroom as so slow!! Oh the joys of getting older. If i stay as i am i will be grateful as i can just about manage the house, garden, personal care and as long as i can drive i will be able to do my shopping. Thank god for supermarket trollies to lean on.

I have a gardener who does the heavy work and i just potter in my greenhouse and water pots and deahead flowers. Today i have contacted a lady i know who does housework and she is coming Friday to chat about what i want her for, mostly carrying the hoover upstairs as i can manage downstairs in stages but never feel safe going up the stairs with things in my hands. I will get her to change bedding too as the duvet cover is a real challenage!!!! lol. Wishing you well. Kind regards.

Lol it’s nice to know we are not on our own I guess ! Yea I hope I don’t get worse as I still drive to shops etc and do housework (not everyday) but my house isn’t going anywhere so I don’t let it get to me when I can’t do it all ! I hope it works out out with the cleaning lady , our gardens are communial so they get done for us , Thanks for writing to me 😊
