Hi

I have not slept properly in 3 days.

I do take Amitriptyline but it does not seem to be working.

When I do try to nap I can't seem to get in a deep sleep.

Before this I had no problem sleeping

In fact I sleep quite alot.

Is this part of fibromyalgia???

Hi melissa 😊

I'm so sorry you have joined the "wide awake club" and know only too well how completely debilitating it is. In answer to your question "is this part of fibro" the answer is sadly, yes. Most of us to a lesser or greater degree are effected by sleep disorders, which come in various forms. One of the classics ones is not getting deeply asleep (the REM stage) which gives restorative sleep. You say you are taking amitriptyline, but could I ask at what dosage ? Some people manage on a low dose others have to increase the dose to the level of efficacy.

Things one can do to help with sleep are to follow a routine, have a bath, read a book and do it at the same time each day. There are schools of thought which think that blue light (the light emitted from televisions, computers, tablets etc.,) can impact highly and some members here have found it useful to stop using such devices about 2 hours before bedtime. You can also try having a milky drink, it does seem to work for some. Some people find that listening to white noise or even gentle soothing sounds can help them drop off.

I often find that I can't shut my mind off and until recently that was a huge problem, but someone on here I think (fog being rather dense as usual) mentioned repeating the word "the" continuously, now quite why it has worked I'm not sure, but I think it may be to do with the fact you are concentrating on just that one word, but it certainly has helped. I can't honestly say it's every night, but sometimes when I am getting really sick and tired of lying in bed in pain and desperate to sleep I do it and mostly it does help.

I hope this may be of help to you and I'm sending lots of positive, soothing and sleep enduring vibes your way 😊😊

Foggy x

I am so genuinely sorry to read that and I sincerely hope that you can find some resolution to this issue. Even before my Fibro I was an insomniac so I sympathise with your predicament. I would inform your GP or Medical Specialist of how you are feeling and ascertain what they can do to help you. I want to genuinely wish you all the best of luck.

All my hopes and dreams for you

I have Fibro and Lupus, tonight I went to bed at 2.30am and up at 6.30am, really find it hard to sleep. GP not interested, says it is just Fibro/Lupus. Tired all the time. Tried to get sleeping pills when I was unable to sleep except for an hour or two, she again was not interested. I have Amitriptyline too but don't bother to take it as it didn't help and was another tablet to take.
