Hi, not be on the forum long but it's six o'clock in the morning and I have had about two hours sleep. Putting mag oil on my legs to alleviate the restless legs, but also my knees are killing me with the arthritis. Have decided to try and lose weight to help take pressure off (not easy I know) but I have to try something. I am only 5 ft tall and weight just under 10 stones so I know I am overweight. Don't have a big appetite but love butter and bread ( will have to give them) up. Has anyone find this to be a successful wat of alleviating knee pain.

No idea, but I would like to know the answer for same reasons. Have put on too much weight since taking gabapentin and amitriptyline, helped fibro pain but at what cost ?
Morning Mogsy,
I'm sorry you are having such a rough time with your legs and knees. I can't speak from personal experience but I do know from my landlady who is my neighbour that weight loss can have a big impact on the arthritis in the knees. She is smaller than you height wise and weighed more, she was told that unless she lost some of the weight the couldn't feasibly do the operation and certainly not on the NHS. Anyway, she decided to go privately (the surgeon's ethics in my view were more than slightly skewed) and he did the operation which had many many problems afterwards during the recovery period and throughout the extensive physio she then needed. Then about four years later she needed the other knee doing and wasn't prepared to fork out the money again so she did loose sufficient weight for the NHS to readily do the operation. The recovery after this operation was a breeze, because she had lost weight the exercises were much easier for her to do and it was a much more successful outcome, completely different to the first time round.
Can I ask if you have seen a specialist about a possible knee replacement because ultimately that will be the way forward and if you can lose a bit of weight in the meantime it will very much help you.
Sending you lots of positive healing vibes 😀

I read somewhere that every 10lb your over weight puts 60lb strain on the joints I was so shocked I have bone spurs on both hips so definitely on a diet it's so hard x
Hi Mogsye, losing weight is the way to go..but it is also important to do it properly, as if you don't fill yourself with good nutrition, at the same time you lose weight, you can find yourself in a difficult place.
What you going through is called calcification. (arthritis), in which your blood is toxic and some toxins accumulate in the joins..creating what is usually called "sand in the joint sensation". you need to clean your lymphatic system, release the toxins and you may experience a massive improvement in your health. all the best for you.
I'm in the same boat, I don't count calories just portion control and no processed foods. xx
I am so genuinely sorry to read that and I want to sincerely wish you all the best of luck.
All my hopes and dreams for you
Ken
I've found that putting tubular bandages on my knees at bedtime stops most of the restless legs problems and the warmth and support also eases knee pain during the during. Good luck
Thank you for that advice
Regards
Just re-read my post and what I meant to say was that the tubular bandages help the knee pain during the day not during the during...DUUUHHHH!!!
