Low impact sports

It's difficult to be active again with pain. Any suggestions on low impact sports which do not cause a bad flare?

I am so genuinely sorry to read that, and I want to genuinely and sincerely wish you all the best of luck. Sadly, I do not play sports but I do a daily physiotherapy session whereby I bend and twist certain joints and muscles but very slowly.

Al my hopes and dreams for you

Ken

I am able to do Hatha yoga (a gentle yoga), swimming, light gardening and short walks (about 20minutes) with the dog.

But I suggest that you start with short walks and gradually build up... but as soon as you feel any increased pain then stop and take a break....... it is all about pacing yourself and not overdoing things. :)

I find cycling ok but it depends on where in your body hurts more xx

When I can, I swim, depends on how bad a day I'm having, as I have osteoarthritis in my neck and sometimes the sheer effort of getting to and from pool too much to face, but if you find a good pool, where the water is a good temperature, letting the water take the weight of your body, is good.

Bellydance is gentle and very low impact. It gently stretches and helps to mobilise joints and muscles due to the rhythmic nature of the dance. I have recently had to give doing it regularly as my legs no longer have the strength they used to, But the suppling excercises are still great to stop joints seizing up. I can still dance using crutches!

I find that I can only do swimming for about 20mins in the pool. Sometimes it's just floating when the pain is more severe. I cant walk very far without it hurting or should I say not at all! If you can find a pool with a Jacuzzi then I find it very good, the heat and the jets.

Hope you find something that suits you x
